Greek Taverna - Reviews

Milos Greek Restaurant was first established in 2006 as a restaurant chain under the Xihua Group. As a restaurant group from Greece, Xihua Group is committed to promoting Mediterranean food culture to China, providing Greek cuisine to convey Greek culture to Shanghai diners. Milos Greek Restaurant opened two stores in Shanghai and has become an irreplaceable part of the Chinese and Western diners living in Shanghai over the years. However, due to the difficulty of maintaining the operation of a niche exotic restaurant, the Yueyang Road store had to be closed, so there is currently only one branch of Milos in Shanghai on Laowai Street. Diners who want to experience authentic Greek cuisine should seize the opportunity and leave no regrets.

Most of Milos' ingredients are procured from Greece and shipped back to China, and most of them are guaranteed by the sister company Xihua Aifenle Trading and Import. An indispensable olive oil ingredient in Greek cuisine is Elaine baby extra virgin olive oil produced in the Schiva Group's own olive orchards, striving to restore the unique healthy taste of Greece. The Laowai Street restaurant specializes in barbecue and meat, with a rich selection of dishes and relatively affordable prices, making it a cost-effective choice among many exotic restaurants in Shanghai.

The chef of the restaurant recommends traditional Greek dishes. There are traditional Greek yogurt cucumber sauce with pita bread, traditional Greek spinach pie, crispy fried feta cheese with honey, classic Greek salad, grilled sea bream over an open fire, etc., which basically meet the taste of Chinese people, and can be selected according to their preferences. Greek vegetable platter with feta cheese tomato pie, zucchini pie and spinach pie, served with Greek handmade yogurt. Among them, the cheese in the Feta Cheese Tomato Cake has a salty taste, and the taste of Zucchini Cake and Spinach Cake is more acceptable to the Chinese people, and the portion is larger, and it will feel a little greasy after eating a piece. To prevent waste, it is recommended that multiple people share it.

Charcoal-grilled meat skewer platter, meat skewers are served directly on iron skewers, so be especially careful when eating. Both chicken and pork skewers have a dry and firm texture and are quite chewy. Served with freshly fried french fries, tomatoes and onions, as well as traditional Greek yogurt and cucumber sauce and handmade pita bread, a meat skewer platter can be shared by two to three people. It is worth noting that Greek yogurt has an unusually rich taste and a sour taste, and most Chinese diners feel that it is too sour after only a few bites and have to give up eating it. Generally, the main food side dishes will be delivered, so it is recommended that diners do not need to order a special order. The tomatoes and vegetables in the Greek salad are fresh and served with extra virgin olive oil to add flavor, but the cheese in it is unusually salty, which is quite a challenge for the Chinese people.

The interior of the restaurant is blue and white as the main color to reveal a strong Greek style, and the combination of white arches and blue windows shows a romantic Greek style, allowing diners to be in a relaxed and casual dining atmosphere. The restaurant also has alfresco seating, parasols when it's too hot, and many foreign diners choose to dine al fresco and enjoy their meal in the sun. The restaurant is run by a Greek couple who are hospitable and have basic Chinese communication. Diners who are not proficient in English can take the initiative to ask the Chinese waiters if they need to know more about the characteristics of the dishes.

It is worth mentioning that there are many exotic restaurants in Shanghai, and in addition to a few well-known old restaurants, perhaps a small shop on the road can also bring surprises. However, most of the dishes in exotic restaurants adhere to local flavors and do not cater to the tastes of Chinese people, so many people gradually stop patronizing after trying them because they are not suitable for local tastes. As a result, most exotic restaurants are not very popular, and they rely on foreigners to maintain their business. There are also many niche exotic restaurants that are closed due to the scarcity of customers and the inability to support their business, and the elimination rate is relatively high.
