Beijing No. 80 Middle School International Department - Institutional Review

No. 80 Middle School is one of the first schools in Beijing to admit foreign students, offering Chinese middle and high school courses for foreign students. At present, 80 Middle School has been authorized by the College Board AP Curriculum, the Cambridge International Curriculum Centre (CIE) and the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) to offer AP courses in the United States, A-Level courses in the United Kingdom, and the International Baccalaureate (IBDP) courses at the same time. In June 2017, Eighty Middle School passed the accreditation of the American Advanced Education Accreditation Organization (AdvancED) and became an AdvancED accredited school.

No. 80 Middle School is one of the few public international departments in Beijing that does not restrict household registration, non-Beijing students and foreign high school entrance examination students can apply, and the additional test score line in 2016 and 2017 is 540 points, and the high school entrance examination scores of foreign candidates can be converted according to the standard. The tuition fee for AP and A-Level programs is 100,000 yuan per academic year.

In 2018, the AP program enrolled 5 classes (100 students) and the A-Level program enrolled 1 class (20 students). In addition, since the IBDP program has just been established, there is no separate enrollment, but among the existing sophomores, students are selected according to their learning ability and willingness to learn, so as to achieve direction diversion.

The Chinese-British High School Curriculum (A-Level) program provides IGCSE and A-Level courses, and the learning content of the first year of senior high school includes national compulsory courses, IGCSE courses, English courses, and A-Level courses in the second and third years of high school, and continues to take the national compulsory courses and complete the examination subjects. Both the Chinese and British programs use local British teaching materials and are taught by Chinese and foreign teachers.

After entering the U.S.-China High School Curriculum (AP) program, students are first exposed to the national compulsory courses, including bilingual teaching transition courses, AP preparation courses, TOFEL and targeted individual tutoring. After entering the second year of high school, SAT and TOFEL preparation courses have increased, AP international courses have become the mainstream, and the classroom is taught in English. In the third year of high school, I began to prepare for AP exams and college applications.

Some students believe that the school's investment in the curriculum is not balanced, and it takes more time on the national compulsory courses, resulting in less time for students to devote to the international curriculum and standardized test preparation, and students need to control the time arrangement by themselves in this regard, so as not to delay the preparation time for standardized tests.

In the past two years, the International Department of 80 Middle School has been in the limelight for university admissions, and the 2017 graduates have gone to Yale University, Stanford University, Cornell University and other Ivy League schools. The class of 2018 also has excellent exports, with top universities in the United Kingdom and the United States, such as Stanford University, Cornell University, Washington University in St. Louis, Emory University, University of California, Berkeley, University of California, Los Angeles, University of Southern California, University of Virginia, New York University, Amherst College, Imperial College London, etc., all handing out olive branches to graduates of the International Division of 80 Middle School.
