Founded in 1994 and located in Laiguangying, Chaoyang District, Beijing West Academy (WAB) is one of the earliest foreign schools in Beijing, and was named one of the "Beijing 2008 Olympic Model Schools" by the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee during the 2008 Olympic Games. Western School is also one of the 7 accredited member schools of the Association of International Schools (CIS) in Beijing.

BWI has invested heavily in the construction of school infrastructure, which is one of the best in Beijing among all schools. The school has three divisions: elementary, junior high and high school, as well as a preschool education center. Each division has its own teaching area, which is scattered throughout the campus. The school has built 3 libraries, 3 theaters, 3 full-size stadiums, 1 air dome gymnasium, 1 FIFA international football field, art (music, drama, dance) studios, science laboratories and other teaching venues. The Western Beijing Campus is a mix of Western architecture and Chinese garden style, with small bridges and flowing water, and green trees, which makes you feel very relaxed in the middle of it.

BWI's leadership team is overseen by the Board of Trustees, and the Directors, Associate Directors, and Principals all have more than 20 years of experience in schools around the world. The teaching team comes from 27 countries around the world, and 65% of the teachers have more than 10 years of teaching experience, and the average tenure of teachers is more than 6 years. At the end of October 1998, BWI was accredited internationally by the European Association of International Schools (ECIS) and the New England Association of Colleges and Schools (NEASC). In September 2008, WAB was once again accredited by the Center for the Development of Basic Education Curriculum and Textbooks (NCCT) of the Ministry of Education, becoming the first international school in China to be accredited in China.

In 2004, BWI became officially accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IB) and began offering the full IB curriculum in Elementary, Middle and High School. In addition, BWI also offers native language programs for non-native English speakers, such as a full set of Chinese IB courses, IBMYP and IBDP French and Spanish programs, and comprehensive courses in Dutch, German, Danish, and Japanese.

In terms of the total number of offers, BWI has received the most top-tier offers outside of the international department. A total of 84 of the 2017 graduates participated in the IBDP program, with an average score of 34 and a pass rate of 95%. It has also gained a lot in college admissions, and its exports are mainly in the United States, including "big vines" such as Yale University, as well as "small vines" such as Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, University of Pennsylvania, Dartmouth College, and world-renowned universities such as Carnegie Mellon University, University of California, Los Angeles, and University of California, Berkeley.

Nearly 1,400 students from 51 countries around the world are studying at Beijing West School of Beijing, mainly from children of multinational employees and diplomats. If you are a Chinese child with permanent residency or citizenship in a foreign country, you can also apply for admission to West School Beijing.
