Mo Lao Long Xi Western Restaurant - business reviews

Mo Lao Longxi Western Restaurant is a Western restaurant specializing in Belgian cuisine, and it is also the only restaurant in Beijing that specializes in Belgian cuisine. The restaurant's quirky name, "Molau Dragon Seal", comes from the family name of the owner, Mr. M. Renaat Morel, and the two dragon seals carved in front of the restaurant, which blends the different charms of East and West.

Opened in 1999, this Western restaurant is one of the oldest Western restaurants in Beijing. For more than ten years, Moraulong has received Belgian dignitaries such as former King Albert II of Belgium, former Prime Minister of Belgium, former Minister of Defense, former President of the International Olympic Committee Rogge has also visited, and Chinese stars such as Gong Li and Zhou Xun have also visited.

Restaurateur M. Renaat Morel is a Belgian chef who has worked as a chef in several five-star hotel restaurants in France, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands and other countries, and he has received his first Michelin star at the Ritz-Carlton in Cannes, France, and his second and third Michelin stars at the Cap Estel in France. Since then, Morel has traveled to Hong Kong and Beijing, serving as executive chef on special planes for Chinese leaders such as Jiang Zemin, Li Peng and Zhu Rongji.

Rainbow with French fries is the restaurant's signature dish and the head of Belgium's national dish. Belgians have a soft spot for Rainbow, which can be found in many restaurants on the streets of Belgium in autumn and winter. Selected fresh sea rainbows from the Belgian and Japanese seas, cooked in a traditional black enamel pot, and added with celery and onions to remove the smell and enhance the freshness, the simple and classic original juice is boiled, the soup is sweet and delicious, showing the sweet essence of the sea rainbow. Haihong's "authentic" way of eating is also very special, the first Haihong uses a fork to take the meat and leave the shell, and then uses this shell to eat, dip it in a special sauce entrance, and you can also use the shell to scoop the soup, and after eating, each mussel is inserted in turn, end to end, fun and proud.

The restaurant will serve the original sea rainbow with French fries, which is also a classic pairing in Belgian cuisine. Belgium is the birthplace of French fries, and as a Belgian restaurant, Molaulong's fries can't be ignored. Their fries are all homemade in the restaurant, although they are not American-style coarse potatoes, but they are also finger-thick, the heat is precise, the inner core is soft and hot, the outer layer is crispy and fragrant, and it is eaten with mayonnaise, which is crispy and not greasy, worthy of the name of the originator of Belgian fries. In addition to the original sauce, many of the restaurant's main dishes, such as meatballs in tomato sauce, Brussels black pepper steak, Belgian beef stew, beef tenderloin salad, and pan-fried eel with tartar sauce, will be served as a side dish.

The main dishes of the restaurant are exquisitely selected, especially the beef tenderloin and sirloin are of excellent quality, and the cooking techniques are also excellent, and the taste is extremely tender. In the early days, Molau Longxi's steaks have won many awards from English-language media such as Timeout, and they are still ageless and cost-effective. Traditional farmhouse dishes such as beef tenderloin, secret foie gras pie, Belgian bitter cabbage bacon pie, fish soup from the south of France, Belgian beef stew, and Belgian braised farmer's chicken with cream are also worth trying. Waffles for dessert are also Belgian specialties and are worth trying.

The restaurant has an extensive Belgian beer list, including Orval, Chimay, Goulden Carolus, Morel, Westmalle, Maredsous, Rochefort, Rodenbach and Achel, all imported directly from Belgium, and their beer richness is even praised by many beer lovers in Beijing.

The restaurant is not large, and due to its age, the façade looks very shabby, like a street food stall, and if you don't pay attention to it, you will miss it. The interior of the restaurant is a different scene, with light yellow walls covered with Belgian paintings, and all corners are covered with various antique gadgets, and the environment is warm and homely, full of European style. The service in the restaurant is gentle and courteous, kind and attentive, and pleasantly surprised. The overall dining atmosphere and experience are warm and comfortable, whether it is a family dinner or a meeting with friends, Molao Longxi can be regarded as a place to choose.
