The Chen Clan Ancestral Hall was built in the 14th year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty (1888), which is a relatively well-preserved representative folk building in Guangdong at the end of the Qing Dynasty, and was rated as the first of the "Top Ten Tourist Attractions in Guangzhou" in 1996. Today, Chen's College has been selected as one of the "Eight Views of Yangcheng in the New Century" twice in the name of "Ancient Ancestral Hall", and has become the most cultural and artistic museum and tourist attraction in Lingnan.
When the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall was first built, it was a joint ancestral hall of the Chen family in Guangdong Province, which provided accommodation for scholars from all over the ethnic group to go to Guangzhou to participate in the imperial examination. It has an ancient architectural style, full of Guangzhou style and Lingnan characteristics, and is recommended for tourists who are interested in ancient architecture and history.
The building structure of the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall can be divided into three axes and three entrances, with a construction area of 8,000 square meters. There are courtyards between each entrance of the ancestral hall, and they are cleverly connected by corridors and warehouses, with a total of nine halls and six courtyards. Enter the ancestral hall from the entrance, visit in a polygonal shape, and the viewing order is as follows: main hall (double-sided hollow wood carved large screen door) - platform (stone carved railing, iron cast flower railing) - Zhongjin Juxian Hall (regular special exhibition) - Houjin Central Hall (100-year-old Chen College photo exhibition) - Hou Dong Zhai (Ambilight - Cantonese embroidery art exhibition) - Qiandong Wing (old Guangzhou Home Furnishing Exhibition). In the halls, corridors, courtyards, doors, windows, railings, ridges, brick walls, beams, shrines and other places of the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, you can see wood carving, stone carving, brick carving, pottery sculpture, gray sculpture and other traditional architectural decorations and iron casting technology everywhere, its shape is vivid and colorful. In addition to the sculptures, the painting is not to be missed. What is amazing is that none of these thousands of paintings have the same style and repeated patterns, which shows that the creator is quite accomplished.
