Baldwin's first piano was born in 1890 and was the largest piano producer in the United States for most of the 20th century, representing not only the American jazz style, but also a brand that permanently resides in the White House, being acquired by Gibson Guitar in 2001 as its subsidiary. This was followed in 2004 by the establishment of Gibson's first piano production site in Zhongshan, Guangdong, and in 2006 by the acquisition of the Northeast Piano Factory, which produces NORDSKA grand pianos, and since then all Baldwin pianos have been produced in China.
