The predecessor of Hebei Zhongxing Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. was founded in 1949 and is an ordnance repair shop of a department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. In December 1999, a joint venture company was established with total assets of 1.895 billion yuan. ZTE is the birthplace of China's first domestic pickup truck with independent intellectual property rights. It is a backbone enterprise of multi-functional vehicles, a national automobile export base and a national high-tech enterprise.
The company has three global production bases and a product research and development center with Hebei Zhongxing, Yichang Zhongxing and overseas KD factories as the main body, with four major processes of stamping, welding, painting and final assembly, as well as three complete sets of SUV and pickup truck body molds. Baoding production base has 2,300 employees, an annual production capacity of 100,000 vehicles, 15 main production lines are all controlled by computers, from raw materials into the workshop to the vehicle off the assembly line all in a joint plant. ZTE Automobile has more than 130 suppliers at home and abroad, a sound marketing and service network at home and abroad, and more than 300 dealers and nearly 400 service stations in China.
