Zhongnanhai cigarettes are an early product of the Beijing Cigarette Factory. It originated from Comrade Mao Zedong's penchant for cigarettes in his later years. Comrade Mao Zedong mainly smoked special cigars and some paper cigarettes produced by the Beijing Cigarette Factory. In the 70s of the 20th century, the Beijing Cigarette Factory received a special task from the General Office of the Central Committee to set up a 132 workshop (referred to as the 132 factory) in a courtyard on the east side of Zhongnanhai to produce special cigarettes for Chairman Mao Zedong and other central leaders, which lasted until 1976. The trademark maintains the traditional Chinese art style in the pattern design, with a bright red background and supplemented by gold, showing the festive and auspicious characteristics of the Chinese nation. In particular, the three characters "Zhongnanhai" written by Mao Zedong himself are used as trademarks, and they are the essence of ancient Chinese culture. The Zhongnanhai cigarette label printed on elegant red copper paper reminds people of that fiery history.
