Headquartered in Los Angeles, California, Neutrogena's founder, Emanuel Stolaroff, opened a small specialty cosmetics company, Natone, in 1930. In 1954, on a business trip to Europe, Stolaroff discovered a distinctive transparent soap invented by the Belgian chemist Dr. Edmond Fromont.
