The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) opened in November 1988. Since then, Hong Kong's trade fair industry has flourished, establishing Hong Kong as a hub for trade events in Asia and a major venue for international conferences.

The Convention and Exhibition Centre is located on the stunning Victoria Harbour. The property of the HKCEC is jointly owned by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and the Hong Kong Government. The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) has been entrusted with the development, design and management of the HKCEC. The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) has signed an agreement with the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (Management) Limited ("HKCEC") for the management and operation of the HKCEC. MICE is a wholly-owned subsidiary of NWS Holdings Limited (stock code: 0659).

With more than 850 employees, the Convention & Exhibition Management Company is committed to making the Convention and Exhibition Centre the best exhibition and convention venue in Asia by providing first-class services and adopting advanced and innovative operating technologies, and is internationally renowned for providing excellent service and hosting internationally renowned MICE projects.

Since the opening of the convention and exhibition center, the utilization rate has been rising; The first expansion project was completed in June 1997 and the total area of the main site was more than doubled. The expanded HKCEC is a further step forward in Hong Kong's status as a centre of Asian trade in the 21st century.

In response to the demand for exhibition space from existing and new customers, the second expansion of the HKCEC commenced in May 2006 and was completed in April 2009. The expansion will add an additional 19,400 square metres of exhibition space to the HKCEC.

When the Convention and Exhibition Centre opened in 1988, the construction cost was HK$1.6 billion (US$207 million), a figure that does not include land prices. The first extension, completed in 1997, cost HK$4.8 billion (US$620 million), including reclamation costs. The second expansion, completed in 2009, cost HK$1.4 billion (US$180 million).

HKCEC currently has a total exhibition area of 66,000 square metres, a total multi-purpose venue of 20,000 square metres and a total ancillary area of 5,500 square metres.
