Founded in 1993, it is one of the top ten auction house brands, regularly holds large-scale auctions in spring and autumn every year, and is a comprehensive auction company specializing in Chinese cultural relics and artworks, and an influential brand in the auction industry
China Guardian International Auction Co., Ltd., founded in May 1993, is the first comprehensive auction company in China to deal in Chinese cultural relics and artworks. Headquartered in Beijing, the company has offices in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and North America. In October 2012, China Guardian (Hong Kong) International Auction Co., Ltd. held its first auction in Hong Kong, marking a crucial step in the history of Chinese art auctions.
Since its establishment 23 years ago, the company has successfully held more than 1,200 special auctions, with a total turnover of more than 50 billion yuan, and nearly 450,000 lots have been sold at auctions held by Guardian. Through the efforts of China Guardian, many national treasures, such as "Weng's Collection", "Tang Jihuai Vegetarian Fish Post", "Song Gaozong's Handwritten Health Theory" and other important lots, have either returned to the mainland from overseas or flowed from the private sector to important collection institutions. Over the years, Guardian auctions purchased by museums and art galleries include Song Gaozong's "Theory of the Two-Body Book of True Grass and the Theory of Health and Health", which was acquired by the Shanghai Museum; Zhu Xi and Zhang Yan, "Spring Rain Post, Jiaxue Post, Xinqi Post", purchased by the Palace Museum; Sui Renshu "Ode to the Teacher", purchased by the Palace Museum; Wang Xizhi's cursive "Peace Post", acquired by Long Museum; Li Keran's "Jinggang Mountain", acquired by Long Museum, etc. At the same time, projects continue to break the record of the highest prices sold at auction for regional and international artworks. In the 2007 autumn auction, Qiu Ying's Red Cliff Picture of the Ming Dynasty sold for RMB 79.52 million, making the auction price of Chinese paintings exceed the $10 million level for the first time, such as Qi Baishi's Pine and Cypress Gaolitu Seal Script Four Words Couplet (2011 Spring Auction, 425.5 million yuan), Wang Xizhi's cursive Ping An Post (2010 Autumn Auction, 308 million yuan), and the Tang Dynasty "Great Sage's Relics" Fuxi-style Guqin (2011 Spring Auction, 115 million yuan). Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (2004 Spring Auction, sold for 35.75 million yuan), Qing Qianlong Pastel Kaiguang Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea Chart Plate Bottle (2006 Spring Auction, sold for 52.8 million yuan), Ming Huang Pear Cluster Moire Horseshoe Leg Six-Pillar Bed (2010 Autumn Auction, 43.12 million RMB), Jin Shangyi's Tajik Bride (2013 Autumn Auction, 85.1 million RMB), etc., as well as a number of treasures in the stamps and coins category, all set the highest prices in the history of each project.
In 2015, China Guardian's three works exceeded 100 million yuan, ranking among the top three in the mainland art market (Pan Tianshou's "Eagle Rock Mountain Flowers", 279 million yuan, Li Keran's "Ten Thousand Mountains Are Red", 184 million yuan, Li Keran's "Jinggang Mountain", 127 million yuan), and in 2016, Zeng Gong's "Bureau Post" (2016 spring auction, 207 million yuan) auctioned by China Guardian topped the list of ancient Chinese paintings and calligraphy in the world's spring auctions, and Chen Mingyuan's pumpkin pot (2016 spring auction, 32.2 million yuan). Broke the transaction record of Lao Zisha and the record of Chen Mingyuan's works.
China Guardian was one of the first batch and successively rated as the AAA highest qualification of China's auction enterprises, and was awarded the title of trustworthy enterprise by the government's administrative department for industry and commerce. In 2015, the three national authorities jointly released the 2014 market statistics with the China Auction Association, and China Guardian ranked first in 9 statistics, including 7 statistics, including the total tax payment of enterprises, the amount of the auction received, and the commission received, which ranked first for 4 consecutive years since the China Auction Association released the annual report. In the course of more than 20 years of Guardian's development, China Guardian has been working with all parties in the industry to promote the continuous standardization and improvement of China's entire cultural relics and artwork auction industry, from the practice of "targeted purchase" and "national preemptive purchase right" to the drafting of the "Regulations for the Auction of Cultural Relics and Artworks" and the "Regulations for the Auction of Cultural Relics and Artworks".
In May 2008, China Guardian held the "Together for the Relief of Chinese Contemporary Art Disaster Relief Auction", and all proceeds from the auction were donated to the earthquake-stricken areas in Sichuan through public welfare organizations. In 2010, the first large-scale thematic scholarship in China's cultural and museum industry, "China Guardian Xu Bangda Art Education Scholarship", was established to encourage young people to be eager to learn and promote Mr. Xu Bangda's noble character and academic spirit. In 2013, China Guardian and Lu Mutao, the owner of Mangrove Baiyun Tower, donated Zhang Dashanba's "Ode to the Sui People" to the Forbidden City in the Yuan Dynasty, and held a large-scale cultural relics and artwork exhibition in the same year. In 2016, China Guardian exclusively supported the "Shiqu Treasures International Academic Symposium" during the "Shiqu Baoji Special Exhibition", one of the series of activities to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Palace Museum. In order to promote artistic exchanges between the East and the West, China Guardian has supported the Asia Foundation Lotus Leadership Award and the Asian Art Museum's "First Sight: Asian Contemporary Collection" exhibition.
