Located in Chongli District, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, 220 kilometers away from Beijing and 59 kilometers away from Zhangjiakou, Miyuan Genting Park is only 50 minutes after the completion of the high-speed rail in 2019, and the planned highway ride is 1 hour and 20 minutes. Co-founded by Datuk Lim Chee Wah, Chairman of VXL Group and Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Chairman of Genting Group in Malaysia, it has a total investment of 18 billion yuan and covers an area of 100 square kilometers. At present, it is a mountain resort with a large investment scale, a wide planning area, a new design concept and a humanized service concept in North China.
Genting Park plans to develop a total of 88 ski slopes with a total length of about 70 kilometers, and 22 cable cars with a total length of about 30 kilometers. Genting Ski Resort officially opened in 2012 and has completed the first phase of construction so far, with a ski area of more than 80 million square meters. There are 41 ski trails, including 13 advanced trails, 20 intermediate trails, 2 beginner trails, 6 wild ski trails and snow parks, and 5 world-class high-speed cable cars with full seat heating function in Genting Park, which is also the earliest ski resort in China to be equipped with heated seats. The Olympic-sized halfpipe and aerials platform host national team training and international competitions, including the 2017 FIS Aerials World Cup and the FIS Halfpipe World Cup. A topographic teaching ski park for beginners, which significantly improves the success rate of beginners on the snow.
The second phase of development will be completed by October 2020, with six new projects: Tourism Creative Entrepreneurship Town, Prince Ski Town, Traditional Chinese Medicine Valley, Media Center, Beicun and Wudaogou Hotel Village, to build a comprehensive four-season tourism resort. The park is expected to build 10,000 rooms, with a reception capacity of 30,000 people and an annual travel time of up to 250 days. Genting Resorts will become Asia's largest snowboard park and a world-class sports and leisure destination.
On July 31, 2015, Beijing and Zhangzhou jointly bid for the Olympic Games, and Genting Snow Park was designated as the venue for the freestyle skiing and snowboarding competitions of the 2022 Winter Olympics, and six events, including moguls, aerials, halfpipe, slopestyle, pursuit, and parallel giant slalom, will be held at Genting Snow Park, with a total of 18 gold medals. Genting Grand Hotel will be the mountain media center for the Winter Olympics media operation. It is only 3 km away from the Olympic Village.
On June 9, 2016, the FIS Council officially announced at the 50th FIS Congress Gala Dinner in Cancun that Zhangjiakou will be the host city for the 2021 Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding World Championships, and Genting Ski Resort will be the venue for the 2021 Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding World Championships, which will also be a test event for the 2022 Winter Olympics.
