Ibanez was founded in Japan in 1908 and is a world-famous brand, and although there are a certain number of guitar manufacturers in Japan, there are not many that can be well-known and established overseas. In a sense, Ibanez is a premium brand in this category. Even the tiny parts are made with great detail, and they are still the darlings of guitarists in the rock world. The practicality of the Ibanez guitar and its applicability to various types of music is a big reason for its popularity.
Ibanez guitars range from the representative RG series and S series to guitarists, and from the 7-string instrument that reshaped the history of guitar to the "Double Edge" series. Every guitar embodies the latest manufacturing technology in the guitar world. However, these unique and creative guitars were not created in a matter of days, they took 60 years of twists and turns to be created. This time, we will not only introduce the birth process of Ibanez, but also how it strives to become a representative brand of originality, and how it developed into one of the world's leading guitar manufacturers.
Hoshino Musical Instruments, which made Ibanez guitars, was originally a small shop selling books and stationery, and was originally known as Hoshino Shoten, which was founded in 1908. The year after its establishment, it became the first musical instrument store in Japan to become involved in the sale of musical instruments. In 1920, Hoshino Shoten began the import and export business of internationally renowned brand musical instruments, and in 1930, it began to manufacture and sell its own guitars. Its history as a manufacturer of Ibanez began here.
The name "Ibanez" is derived from the first half of its name "BANEZ SALBADOL". At that time, the Spanish pronunciation was supposed to be "Ebany Aisi".
Hoshino's sales business continued smoothly until World War II, but when the factory and office buildings were destroyed by the war, Hoshino Gaki stopped production for a time. In 1950, with the advent of peace, Hoshino Gakki regrouped, but at that time they only imported and exported acoustic guitars. In 1960, the owners of Ibanez were keenly aware of the rock 'n' roll boom led by the Beatles, and immediately began to operate electric guitars. In order to make guitars again, in 1962 they established "Taman Works" (the factory predecessor of the current TAMA drums) to manufacture electric guitars. In 1971, Hoshino Gaki began the first export of Japanese musical instruments to the U.S. with the U.S. as its largest market.
