During the Southern Song Dynasty, there was a shallow water bay under the Lychee Peak of Nanping Mountain in the southern corner of West Lake, and it is said that this place was the place where the two princes of the royal family Zhuang Wen and Jing Xian were saved (the place of temporary burial in ancient times), and then it was named "Prince Bay". Prince Bay was originally a swampy depression where West Lake was dredged and silted, and was built into Prince Bay Park in 1989.
Prince Bay Park diverts water from West Lake, separated by waterways and garden roads, forming many scenic spots, such as Pipa Island, Jade Garden and so on. There are six or seven small bridges in the park, made of leathered fir billet, that span the lake.
Thousands of cherry blossoms are planted in Prince Bay Park, and the best time to see them is from late March to early April. When you enter the park from the north gate of Prince Bay Park, the first thing that catches your eye is the cherry blossom trees that line around Wangshanping, and when it comes to flowering, the lush cherry blossoms shroud the lawn, which is really spectacular. Walking south through Wangshanping, there are also a large number of cherry blossoms planted near the Zhulianbi Waterfall, and the cherry blossom trees stand near the water, forming a forest around the water. Xiaoyao Slope is one of the most popular cherry blossom viewing spots in Prince Bay Park, and the cherry blossoms are planted on the hillside, which is very romantic. In addition, there are many places in Prince Bay Park where you can see cherry blossoms, but the flowering period is relatively short, only about 10 days.
In addition to cherry blossom viewing, Prince Bay Park is also a good place to see tulips. There are not many parks in Hangzhou where tulips are planted, and Prince Bay Park is one of the most famous. The park has a total of more than 3,000 square meters of tulip fields, including 45 varieties, red, white and yellow interlaced, distributed in various areas, forming a sea of flowers, the scenery is pleasant. The tulips are planted in a very particular location, either on the lawn and facing the cherry blossom trees, or around the shore of the lake to collect water and the sky, which is very meaningful. The tulips in Prince Bay Park are in bloom with cherry blossoms, and the park is crowded with tourists during the flowering period, which inevitably affects the experience of cherry blossom viewing.
Prince Bay Park is also a famous wedding theme park. Although the park is mainly designed in the style of traditional landscape gardens, it also incorporates Western elements, and the blessing of cherry blossoms and tulips makes Prince Bay Park very popular among newcomers.
