Y French Dessert was established in 2016, just in time for the early rise of French Sweet in Xi'an, in the following two years, more and more French Sweet Shops in Xi'an opened, and there were also many closed stores, and Y has also become one of the few predecessors in the existing French Sweet Shops in Xi'an.
Y is only a little more than a 10-minute walk away, and the two are often compared in various ways. Rather than the slightly black door, the Y with floor-to-ceiling glass doors is prominent, and the store is decorated in a simple Scandinavian style, combining gray and wood colors, and a variety of potted plants on the table. Although the store is not large, it is divided into bar counters and loose tables, and there is also a terrace area outside the door to meet the different needs of customers.
The downside is that Y doesn't have many desserts, but the store adjusts the styles quarterly. The Sorcerer, the Tree of Life and the Dancer have been selling since their inception and have never been taken off the shelves. The Magician is like a dessert tailor-made for chocolate control, with a starry sky pattern and a rich filling of white chocolate, milk chocolate and dark chocolate from top to bottom, with a delicate and silky taste and rich sweetness. The Tree of Life and the Dancer are two mousse cakes, both with a sour flavor due to the fact that both are filled with raspberry jam or strawberry jam. More than half of Y's desserts use raspberry jam and strawberry jam as fillings, which can enrich the taste, but the recurrence also makes the dessert seem unoriginal. Although the Tree of Life is a matcha flavor, the matcha flavor is not strong enough and is slightly lacking. The dancer has a delicate appearance, with a pale pink heart shape and a peach-pink sugar granule on the surface. Compared with the tree of life, the dancer has a higher sweetness and a more balanced taste with the filling. The level of the pastry chef in the store is not stable enough, and there are often cases of over-whipping of the cream, resulting in the texture of the cream not being thick enough, which brings regret to the overall taste of the dessert.
In terms of customer flow, Y ranks at least among the top three in Xi'an, and the reason why it has such a status is mainly due to its superior geographical location - close to Qujiang Book City and Tang Furong Garden. For those visiting bookstores or attractions, Y is a great place to take a break and pass the time, but if you do, it's often disappointing.
