BonBon is Changsha's most well-known private cake, thanks to its frequent appearances in many Hunan Satellite TV programs and promotional films such as "Happy Camp". Chef Cessy is a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu in Tokyo, and BonBon is derived from the French word for sugar, and he serves a wide variety of French desserts.
In recent years, artificial fruit sweetness has swept the world, and its representative is the famous French pastry chef Cédric Grolet. In 2018, after BonBon Chef Cessy went to Kyiv, Ukraine to study with Cédric Grolet, he launched several replica cakes of peaches, apples and coconuts at BonBon. The intricate coconut is filled with French coconut puree and Spanish coconut wine, and is covered with dark chocolate and desiccated coconut to replicate a coconut shell. When eating, take a sip of coconut heart with a straw, and then cut it to taste, the coconut flavor is strong.
The "mirror cake" that won praise on "Happy Camp" is actually what the industry often calls a topping cake. In the final step of making this cake, the coloured topping sauce is poured from a high place and the liquid is allowed to flow freely to give the surface a smooth finish, so that each cake has a unique texture. The Starry Sky series is the signature of the BonBon topping cake, with a sparkling outer layer and smoked bean mousse with chocolate filling and chocolate crispy crust. Smoked beans are mostly produced in Brazil and have a strong almond bitterness, and in order to dilute the bitterness, the store uses a chocolate filling of Earl Grey tea, which has a unique tea aroma. The Starry Sky series not only has birthday cakes, but also small desserts such as Galaxy and Starry Sky Tower. In addition to the Starry Sky series, BonBon's Zodiac Signs series birthday cakes based on the month are also popular with diners.
Each of BonBon's cakes shows the chef's creativity. However, the restaurant has always adhered to the principle of "high sweetness" of French sweetness, and most of the cakes are surprisingly sweet and very easy to get greasy.
BonBon is located on the 28th floor of Chaozong Imperial Garden, overlooking the Xiangjiang River. The interior of the store is decorated in a minimalist and modern style, with a futuristic 3D decorative wall and transparent gradient tables and chairs. There is a display wall next to the ordering area, where a variety of vintage accessories made by the owner are displayed and can be purchased directly. The service staff in the store are kind, but they don't know much about cakes, and the service needs to be improved.
