Haley Mansion - Institutional Reviews

Similar to Tai O Heritage Hotel, Haley Mansion is also a heritage building, but the style is more pompous than the former. Across the street from Harbour City, the residences are attractive in size, but not suitable for those looking for a good value for money.

The main building of the Mansion was completed in 1884 and served as the headquarters of the Hong Kong Marine Police for a long time except during the Japanese occupation. As a world-renowned port city with a high degree of economic freedom, Hong Kong's urban planning is more business-oriented than that of the mainland, and this treasure land began to attract investment after 1996, and was acquired by Li Ka-shing Cheung Kong Group. The refurbishment is a significant expense, with the owner claiming that the hotel renovation alone cost more than HK$1 billion, which may be worth the cost given its historic atmosphere. Victorian architecture has always been full of heaviness, and the blue and white façade of the main building with maritime features has been painted pure white, which is even more magnificent.

Haili Mansion belongs to 1881 Heritage, the project is not only a hotel, but also a commercial complex, jewelry, boutique clothing industry has settled in, bars, catering facilities are also relatively sufficient, accounting for nearly half of the shop. When satisfying commercial functions, it is also necessary to highlight historical characteristics, and Hong Kong designers prefer to replace the surface with points, and retain some historical details. The Stables Grill restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel is a converted stable, and its interior wall decoration is also made of old ship's plywood; The Mariners' Rest is the office of the former Marine Police Station, and even houses a detention cell and Hong Kong's first flush toilet. A more direct sense of history is reflected in the Time Ball Tower and the Marine Police Headquarters Exhibition Hall, which are small free museums open to the public, and the details will not be repeated.

The mansion has a total of 10 rooms, all of which are suites, and the area is huge, and the smallest is more than 80 square meters. The room is named after Hong Kong Bay, but it is based on the theme of different countries and regions, and has nothing to do with the mainland. It should be noted that "Mawan" is the theme of the Qing Palace, with ancient paintings decorating the walls, and the furniture is "Confucian-style"; "Deep Water Bay" is full of revolutionary characteristics, although it incorporates modern art color scheme, it is inevitably reminiscent of Beijing guest houses; "Shek O" is a new Chinese style, with a red wood texture throughout the house; "Tai O" is a combination of East and West, rich in color, slightly similar to the "European style" admired in a certain period of time.

The above four suites are not scarce for mainland tourists, and in fact, most domestic guests are more interested in other suites as well. "Nanwan" is simple and elegant, showing Chinese style with black and white tones, quite the charm of Xiangshan Hotel, and there are 3 private terraces in the room, which is extremely full of lighting; The walls of "Stanley" are light green, with an English style, and the interior retains the old stove, and the accessories are exquisite and restrained; "Silver Mine Bay" imitates the pure white home of the Louis XIV era, with uniform color, gorgeous but not tiring to the eye, because it is located in the corner of the outer cloister, there are also 3 terraces; "Gee-O" is a Scottish style, which is relatively rare in the mainland, and there are Chesterfield leather chairs in the room, and details such as stoves, chandeliers, and wall styles are quite charming. The "Dong O" and "Tai O" suites are not uncommon, but they are also popular choices, with the former being more like a modern hotel and the latter with an old Shanghai style.

The bed in the mansion is satisfying, the mattress is moderately soft and hard, the duvet is soft and warm, and the powerful "Hong Kong-style" air conditioner has an excellent sleeping effect. The pillows are also divided into two categories: down and latex foam, which are placed in the room. Unfortunately, the rest of the facilities are not elaborate and some of the room facilities are even a little old, the most typical example is the bathroom, where the traditional tile scheme does not bring a sophisticated, clean feel and is not as effective as a "modern" hotel. The drinks served by Hailey Minibar are LILENY and HILTON brands, which are not luxurious, but they are free items, which is also intimate. As a Hong Kong hotel, the service of the residence is commendable, breakfast can be delivered to the room on time, and the turndown service is also worth experiencing.

In the second half of 2017, the mansion fell into a change of property rights, and its service quality was affected, and the aforementioned breakfast delivery business was a new project. In a short period of time, bars and restaurants in the business district may also welcome a period of change, followed by the replacement of service staff and the renovation of houses, which will affect the check-in experience in all aspects. Until May 2018, the hotel still has complaints about the quality of service, of course, the frequency is not high, the residence is still an excellent hotel, but it must be admitted that the service quality at this stage is not as good as before, it is wise to give more time to wait and see, after all, the price of a room is often higher than HK$4,000 per night.
