Latham Hotel - Institutional Reviews

Tsim Sha Tsui is perhaps more suitable for the average visitor than Hong Kong Island, with plenty of shopping and more down-to-earth cuisine, and hotels that offer great value for money. The rooms of Latham & Watkins are spacious and maintain a sense of space in terms of design, but they are more warm and warm when they are swept away from the cold style; At the same time, it has its own theme, which is full of Hong Kong flavor and is rare.

The lower floors of downtown buildings are mostly used for food and beverage, and the Latham reception hall is located on the 5th floor of the building, but the characteristic elements extend to the G floor, and the entrance has a conspicuous colored brick design. If you are familiar with Hong Kong hotels, it is not difficult to find that Latham & Watkins has a unique design, and the hotel management intends to show Hong Kong in the 70s, and they have a soft spot for the film "The Story of A Fei". In terms of design, it is led by Oval Partnership, which is a team that specializes in spatial and functional design, and its typical works are Sanlitun in Beijing and Taikoo Li in Chengdu. One Bite also provided the design for Latham & Watkins, a company that features youthful elements that make Latham décor colorful and bold.

These characteristics are more pronounced in the public areas, where the grey walls are decorated with decorative paintings and graffiti, with a variety of colors and clean lines. In addition to the common Hong Kong "business cards" such as the Star Ferry and double-decker buses, old photos, street signs, Chungking Mansions, Sikhs and other niche elements are also displayed. What's more valuable is that Latham & Watkins also brings a strong sense of life, with graffiti on the walls dynamic and realistic, like a street scene, and the side decorations of the reception desk are composed of various logistics and transportation baskets, which is quite market-like.

The same elements can be found in private spaces, with 81 rooms featuring different themes for Hong Kong, with a relaxing palette of orange, red and yellow, a refuge of the nonchalant industrial style common to boutique hotels. The bedside cloth is in the pattern of a hundred quilts, while the bedside screens in some rooms are modeled after the openwork bricks of tenement buildings in housing estates, a reflection of old Hong Kong life. These decorations are understated and functional, and do not conflict with the cartoon graffiti on the walls. The furniture is more in line with the minds of young people, the tables and chairs are no different from the classroom configuration, the hangers and bed feet are made of steel pipes, but the Simmons mattress is moderately soft and hard.

The Latham Suite is 35 square meters, and the standard room, superior room, and deluxe room are 15 square meters, 22 square meters, and 25 square meters respectively, which is considered spacious in Hong Kong. Even so, the designers still paid attention to the sense of space, and the closet was sealed with a mirror door, killing two birds with one stone. The washing area is more brilliant, the honeycomb white porcelain tiles appear to be unusually clean, and the toilet area is lined with tiles, so that many residents have a commemorative license plate, and the whole space is completely unnecessary, and the walls and facades are scattered to act as a storage table.

If you pay too much attention to design, it may affect practicality, and Latham & Watkins has its shortcomings. Its sink is an old-fashioned European and American porcelain trough, although the appearance is good, but unfortunately the drainage is not smooth. The small size of the wooden table is also to be criticized, and it is not an exaggeration to consider it a flaw to have such a "spacious" room that does not provide enough space for luggage. An even bigger mistake is poor sound insulation, so it's best to bring sleep earplugs if you want to stay.

The hotel is located diagonally opposite the one mall, adjacent to K11 mall and only about 1 km from Harbour City. On the 3rd and 4th floors of the hotel, there are Cantonese restaurants for tea and Western-style restaurants Urban Park, and there are also restaurants along the street that close late at night. Young couples can also keep an eye out for the display in the reception area, where a variety of yellow ducks are for sale, with a fun theme of different cities around the world.
