Boxing Cat is a well-known home-brewed restaurant/winery in Shanghai, and has a high status in the local and national craft brewing circles. In 2017, it was acquired by ZX Ventures, a subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch Inbev, becoming the group's first craft beer brand in China. The acquisition of Boxing Cat by Budweiser has brought a lot of shock to China's craft brewing industry, and some craft beer enthusiasts have become resistant to Boxing Cat. (See the relevant content under the "Goose Island" brand introduction for the reason)
Boxing Cat currently has a physical bar of the same name and a Brunch restaurant called Liquid Laundry, the difference between the two is more reflected in the food positioning, its wine is not much different, both are home-brewed draft beer, so this list introduces the two brands of Boxing Cat together.
Located in Sinan Mansion, Boxing Cat's Old Shop is more like an old English pub, with walnut floors, comfortable and lazy tables and chairs, and a wall full of craft beer bottle caps, making people feel like they have stepped into the treasured world of a craft beer lover. In contrast, Liquid Laundry, located in the center of Jiahua on Huaihai Middle Road, has a modern style because most of the guests come for brunch or dinner. Ordering a glass of craft beer at noon on a weekday is also a relaxing time in the busy.
Since the taste, bitterness, and aroma of different types vary greatly, the order of taste is paid attention to when tasting craft beers. Sucker Punch's Pale Ale contains less malt, but uses a dry-cast hopping technique to give it a more unique aroma, with fruit and caramelized malt notes buried under the orange hue; The body has a medium amount of foam and a moderate killing taste in the mouth. The next thing you can try is the TKO IPA (Fist of Victory IPA), which also uses the dry casting process and adds Simcoe and Amarillo hops, with a hint of lychee at first, followed by a complex aroma of mango, pineapple, citrus and pine needles. This IPA doesn't have too many highlights, but it's a good place to be a ration wine, and of course that's a reference to its bottled version.
After the transition between the first two glasses, you can choose a stronger beer for the third glass. Boxing Cat has a lot of British brown beers and stouts with a heavy style, and here we recommend a standing Imperial stout. Bourbon King Louie's barrel imperial stout aging, in the oak barrel of American bourbon whiskey, added different caramelized malt, smoked malt and coffee brewing, full body, with aromatic hops, has a prominent vanilla flavor, strong killing taste, take a relatively niche sweet stout route, was commented by wine friends as "bubble version of bourbon", it can be said to reach the top level of domestic self-brewed stouts.
