798 Art District - Institutional Reviews

The 798 Art District is an art and creative park in Chaoyang District, Beijing, which was formerly known as the 718 Factory, which made great contributions to China's electronics industry, and was later split into six factories, including 700, 706, 707, 718, 797 and 798. In the 21st century, as the industrial color of the park gradually faded, a large number of cheap rents and spacious factories attracted many artists to set up studios here. Over time, today's 798 Art District has become a complex park with art as the theme, including art exhibition halls, art galleries, art work, sculpture exhibition halls, restaurants, bookstores, photography, shopping and other formats, and has become the place with the strongest art and cultural atmosphere in Beijing, and is one of the gathering places for young art lovers.

The overall environment of the 798 Art District still retains the scene of an abandoned factory, with exposed brick walls, graffiti everywhere, and rusty water pipes all tell the history of the area. However, this does not mean that the 798 Art District is already a dilapidated scene, with imaginative sculptures and artworks popping up along the road, and many amazing exhibitions hidden in old buildings. Opened in November 2017, the Hyundai Motorstudio's service attitude is excellent, with the theme of "transportation" and artworks as display panels, showing the unknown wonderful moments in the history of human transportation. The Chu Bingren Museum of Art is one of the most recommended pavilions in 798. Zhu Bingren is a famous bronze carving artist in China, the only inheritor of the national intangible cultural heritage of copper carving skills, and is known as the "father of contemporary copper architecture in China". Zhu Bingren pioneered the Chinese style of "fused realism", and every collection in the venue is a masterpiece that is breathtaking. In addition, the Ullens Contemporary Art Exhibition is one of the larger art galleries in the park, and many of the park's high-profile exhibitions are held here. In addition, there is also the AT CAFE of the famous Chinese artist Huang Rui, and the ACE CAFE next to it is a British chain café, which features two black trains placed next to the café, which is very eye-catching. There are also many creative shops in the 798 park, such as restaurants, handicraft shops, and botanical gardens, but many small shops have a fast elimination rate, so if you see a store you like, you must not miss it.

However, the 798 Art District has also been plagued by some much-criticized issues. The layout of the 798 park is relatively chaotic, lacking sufficient and clear guide maps, and many tourists will encounter the situation of going around in circles. In addition, the sanitation problem is more serious, and many toilets are relatively dilapidated. Of course, perhaps for artists and people who love art, informality is the norm in their lives.
