Lama Temple-Institutional Reviews

Lama Temple covers an area of about 6.6 hectares and is now the largest Tibetan Gelugpa Buddhist monastery in Beijing, a national 4A-level scenic spot and the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units in the country. Lama Temple was built in 1694, is the Yongzheng Emperor before the throne of the residence of Prince Yong, after his accession to the throne changed to the palace, and renamed Lama Temple. In addition, the Lama Temple is also the birthplace of the Qianlong Emperor, so the Lama Temple is regarded as the "blessed land of the dragon", and the building adopts the highest specifications of red walls and yellow tiles, which is the same as the imperial palace. In 1744, the Lama Temple was transformed by Emperor Qianlong into the highest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in the country. The history of the Lama Temple is rich, and the architectural style also integrates Han, Manchu, Mongolian and other ethnic elements, with Tibetan Buddhism as the theme, but it faintly reveals the grace and luxury of the imperial palace. The internal architectural structure of Lama Temple is not complicated, and it can be roughly divided into three roads: east, middle and west. After the entrance archway, there is a more than 100-meter road, all the way to the ancient trees towering to the sky, at the entrance to add a trace of solemnity and tranquility to the temple. Later, the seven buildings of Zhaotai Gate, Bell Tower, Drum Tower, Lama Gate (Tianwang Palace), Lama Temple (Daxiong Treasure Palace), Lecture Hall, and Tantric Hall conform to the traditional Buddhist "Seven Halls Garan" layout. After that, the main buildings are the Yongyou Palace, the Falun Palace, the Wanfu Pavilion and the Suicheng Palace. There are "three uniques" in the Lama Temple, which are three scenic spots that tourists must not miss. The first place is the Five Hundred Arhat Mountain in the Falun Temple. The 500 Arhat Mountains are placed behind the statue of Lama Tsongkhapa, the founder of Gelugpa Buddhism, enshrined in the temple. Five hundred Arhat Mountain is about 5 meters high, the whole body is carved with rosewood fine carving, on a fairy mountain, there are several pavilions outcropping from time to time, hundreds of Arhats with different demeanors, costumes, postures fall on the mountain, the scene is spectacular, the style is exquisite, it is breathtaking. The Five Hundred Dharma Wheel Hall itself is also very special, the building structure is cross-shaped, the top of the hall is five gilded pagodas with Tibetan style, the five pagodas are actually five Tibetan skylights with one large and four small, which well reflects the difference of Tibetan architecture. The "second must" of Lama Temple is the white sandalwood carved Maitreya Buddha statue enshrined in the Wanfu Pavilion, this Buddha statue is 26 meters high, it is the largest single wooden statue in China, giving visitors an indescribable sense of shock. The last must is in the golden silk nanmu shrine in the Buddha building on the east side of Wanfu Pavilion, the Buddha shrine is 5.5 meters high, 3.5 meters wide, 2.5 meters deep, what makes it unique is that this Buddha shrine is carved with golden silk nanmu throughout, 99 golden dragons hover upward, each dragon has a different demeanor and posture, which is dazzling. The "Sandalwood Buddha" enshrined in the shrine is surrounded by a flame-like backlight, which is also made of nanmu. Lama Temple is located in the East Second Ring Road, and the ground and underground transportation are very convenient. As a Buddhist temple, the interests of Buddhism should be respected when visiting, and it is advisable to worship the Buddha with three incense sticks, and if you have any questions, it is recommended to ask the staff in time. There are many Buddha worship shops outside the Lama Temple, and if you have special needs, you can buy them outside the Lama Temple. It is worth mentioning that the southwest exit of Lama Temple has the vegetarian restaurant "Jing Zhaoyin" recommended by the CNPP100 ranking, whether it is the environment or the production, Jing Zhaoyin can be called the most vegetarian restaurant in Beijing, of course, its price is also expensive, and the per capita consumption is about 600 yuan.
