Up-and-comers such as M. Graham also performed well, but the narrow color gamut was not enough to hold up the façade. Windsor Newton, as a well-known old factory in the pigment industry, began to produce gouache in 1935, and in the 70s, nearly 33,000 kinds of raw materials were used for pigment research and development.
Windsor Newton gouache has only one production line, designer gouache, which does not add powder filler and is mixed with gum arabic, the color is pure and the color is pure. There are a total of 91 colors of gouache, including 58 colors of opacity, 31 colors of semi-opacity, and only 1 color each of transparent and translucent colors, which are 692 Viridian (green) and 380 Magenta (magenta), and the overall coverage performance is excellent.
Limited by the nature of the pigment itself, the hiding power of blue, green and earth colors is generally better than that of yellow, orange and red, but Windsor Newton's color number is sufficient, and there are 4 completely opaque shades in the yellow system, 2 orange colors and 5 red colors. Among the 91 colors, there are 54 colors of a single color gouache and 79 durable color numbers, which is a little mediocre in watercolor, but it is very rare for gouache.
In 1990, Windsor Newton was acquired by AB Wilhelm Becker, a well-known Swedish pigment group, and in 2011 the group completely closed its factory in London and moved production to France. Since the grinding of gouache itself does not need to achieve the accuracy of watercolor, even if the gouache line is not taken seriously, the transfer of the production line has no effect on the production of gouache, and the finished product still has a smooth surface, easy to mix, dilute, and dry quickly.
Windsor Newton's gouache diffusion performance is close to watercolor, and wet painting has a wide range of rendering, which is not as controllable as Nicker, but can be mixed with watercolor. 14ml gouache sells for 5-10 pounds, or 44-88 yuan, and although it is the most accessible high-grade gouache in the world, it has not entered China and needs to be purchased on behalf of others.
