Meade is a multinational company headquartered in Irvine, California, USA, known for manufacturing consumer optoelectronic instruments and was once the world's largest manufacturer of telescopes. Mead Instruments is listed on NASDAQ and is the only telescope listed company in the world. In 2013, it was wholly acquired by Ningbo Sunny Electronics.
Mead's previous Schmidt-Cassegrain catadioptric telescope was very famous and functional, but the lawsuit disputes with the Syntron were very frequent, and after 2008, Mead changed the optical surface design and launched the ACF telescope (Advanced Coma-Free optics). The ACF is a new coma-free design with a flat image plane and sharp star spots like pinpoints, which reduces the astigmatism of classic RC and eliminates starlight. Mead's other technical advantages include: Light Switch one-button automatic calibration system, Auto Star system, UHTC ultra-high transmittance coating.
Mead is best known for the ACF, which is the previous Shika facelift, and regardless of the budget, generally recommends the LX600, a German-style equatorial mount with a dual CCD StarLock system, a built-in full-time automatic star guidance system, and a 144,000-target AUTOSTAR II hand control, an intelligent drive with permanent periodic error correction (PPEC), and a patented Level North Technology (LNT) calibration system. The 12-inch has a rating of 5 out of 5 in Sky At Night Magazine, and the price is 110,000 yuan. There is no evaluation of the 16-inch caliber, but 5 out of 5 should be able to get 5.5 points, the price is about 400,000 yuan, one step in place, nothing else.
Mead's mirrors are not all high-end styles, 80AZ and 80EQ are recommended at the thousand-yuan level, ETX90 Maca or LX70 can be selected below 10,000 yuan, and between 20,000 and 30,000 yuan, you can try the 80mm APO of the 6000 series or enter an LX200 primary mirror, and there are still many options until 400,000. It is true that there are fewer enthusiasts who play Mead in China, but Mead still attaches great importance to the Chinese market, and will not have a complete product line abroad like some brands, and then only a few entry-level models in China.
