Founded in 1923, the predecessor of Murray was the first professional oil paint factory in Italy. In the 30s, under the influence of the unified economic policy, Italy's chemical industry flourished, and the strength of Murray was greatly strengthened, and after two factory expansions in 1936 and 1969, it was acquired by the well-known art material group FILA (not a sportswear brand of the same name), and is now a leading company in the production and distribution of art pigments in Italy.
Murray is an all-round brand, with oil paints, acrylic paints, watercolors, and gouache covering all aspects, although Maimeri Puro oil paints are the main ones, but the artist-level Maimeri Blu watercolors have a higher volume.
Compared with the calm Schmink, the clear and sweet color of Merry Blue has more watercolor characteristics. On the premise of ensuring the concentration of the pigment, it uses a balanced mixture of gum arabic, glycerin and bovine bile as a medium, so that the pigment has the best diffusion property in the recognition, and any two colors can be easily blended, and the color mixing is natural, making it the preferred pigment for wet painting. However, too good diffusion performance also brings trouble, and the Merry Blue watercolor will continue to spread evenly before drying, which is difficult for novices to control. Because it is often used in wet painting, the saturation is low when the humidity is high, and it is easy to lose color, which is not as good as M. Graham, which has a higher concentration of pigment.
In late 2018, Merry Blue Watercolor underwent a comprehensive upgrade, increasing the original 70% monochrome pigment ratio to nearly 100%, and out of 90 colors, only Mars Black and Brown Madder are mixed pigments. Its durability is calculated on a 3-star basis, all pigments reach the highest level, and it is certified by AP for safety. After the upgrade, all the old versions of Hummingbird packaging of Meritol were discontinued, and the 15ml packaging was reduced to 12ml, and the price was increased by 30% overall.
This upgrade has brought the already high evaluation of Merry Blue to a new level, but the problem of filling air pipes has not been solved. Before the upgrade, Merry Blue was known as the king of cost performance, the price after the upgrade was not high, 12ml sold for 48-88 yuan, half a piece of watercolor is about half price of 12ml, of which the cheapest S1 color number is the most, and it has a weak cost-effective advantage. Merry Blue has a total of 6 sets of 12, 16, 24, and 36 colors to choose from on the official website, and the premium set contains accessories such as ox bile and other mediums, color palettes, brushes, etc.
Venice is America's college-level watercolor, but there is no relevant information on the official website, and it is not the same production line as Merit, the glue is thick but the color is light, and there is no transparent tonality of Merit.
