Unilever (China) Co., Ltd., Lipton, founded in 1890 in the United Kingdom, enjoys the reputation of "the king of black tea in the world", with its bright yellow color to convey its brightness, vitality and natural beauty to the world
Originally, in England, tea was an expensive beverage that was only available to the wealthy. In 1880, Sir Thomas Lipton, a young Glasgow entrepreneur and innovator, saw an opportunity to produce an affordable, high-quality tea for the general public.
He bought tea plantations in Ceylon (present-day Sri Lanka) and packaged and shipped the tea, selling high-quality tea directly from the plantations to the public's teapots at a leading cost. In 1893, he established Thomas J Lipton Co., a tea packaging company with its headquarters and factory in Hoboken, New Jersey.
With more than a century of experience in tea cultivation and blending, Lipton ® has passed on Sir Thomas's passion for innovation and quality in tea from one generation to the next, laying the foundation for Lipton ® to become the world's largest tea brand.
History
Born in 1850 in Glasgow, Scotland, to a poor family, Thomas Lipton was the founder of the brand.
Once, Lipton, who was traveling, came to Ceylon, a famous black tea-producing region. Ceylon black tea is a very popular drink among the British, but due to its high price, it is only available to the upper class. Lipton is keenly aware that if black tea can be introduced into the daily lives of the general public, it will inevitably become a good business.
In 1890 he officially launched Lipton Black Tea in England. His advertising slogan was "Direct from tea garden to the tea pot."
In 1892, Lipton began its globalization movement, opening a factory in the United States and then a branch in India, and entering the Far East. In 1898, Lipton was knighted by the Queen of England and was nicknamed the "King of Black Tea in the World".
In 1972, 80 years after the elder Lipton began to expand the Lipton brand globally, Lipton's history took a turning point when Unilever, the world's most famous consumer goods group, acquired the entire Lipton brand. Since then, Lipton has taken Unilever, a global giant ship, and has begun a more powerful expansion road.
Combined with the marketing experience of Lipton and Unilever, Lipton tea products are now sold in 110 countries and territories around the world. Lipton is the world's No. 1 tea brand in terms of popularity and sales, at least twice as much as the second-largest brand. At the same time, Lipton is now the third most popular non-alcoholic beverage among consumers worldwide, behind Coca-Cola and Pepsi.
In 1992, Lipton entered China. Just 5 years later, Lipton won the first place in tea bag sales and market share in a series of surveys of 100 shopping malls in China.
In addition to the recognition of black tea bags, Lipton has also launched new tea bags such as green tea bags and jasmine tea bags that meet the tastes of Chinese consumers. And in 2004, it launched a series of instant teas including milk tea and lemon tea. In 2005, it launched a series of herbal tea bags.
