Its predecessor, Tudou, was officially launched on April 15, 2005 and is one of the earliest video websites in the world. In January 2014, "Tudou" officially changed its name to "Tudou", marking a new stage of brand development.

On August 20, 2012, Youku Tudou's merger plan was approved by the shareholders' meeting of both parties, and Youku Tudou Group was officially born. In April 2013, Youku Tudou Group announced that it had entered the operation stage of "group BU", and put forward the development strategy of "Youku is more Youku, and Tudou is more Tudou".

In February 2013, Yang Weidong became the president of Tudou, announcing that Tudou would "become the favorite video website of Chinese young people", and clarified the vision of Tudou "becoming the most influential youth culture brand in China", and established the brand positioning of Tudou as "youth, personality, autonomy and fun", and Tudou entered the 2.0 stage in an all-round way. In March 2014, Tudou launched the "4 1" strategy. Among them, "4" represents Tudou's focus on the four vertical cultural fields of animation, music, Korean entertainment, and fashion in terms of content. The "1" represents the "one channel" strategy launched by Tudou, based on the "channel owner" and "subscriber" and combined with the two perspectives of the user body, the cross-screen and online and offline experience system is comprehensively constructed, and the experience, business model, operation mechanism and other links are proposed, and five "one" plans are proposed.

On August 6, 2015, Gu Yongqiang, chairman and CEO of Youku Tudou Group, announced at the first Open Ecology Conference that the era of pure video media has ended, and the cultural and entertainment industry has entered the era of self-channel-centered Hele. To this end, Youku Tudou Group officially changed its name to Oneness Group.

According to the data of iResearch, a third-party research company, Youku Tudou Group continues to occupy an absolute leading position in the video industry in various data on all platforms on PC and mobile, and as of March 2014, the number of unique users visiting Tudou per month has increased to 243 million. In the third quarter of 2013, Tudou's mobile terminal achieved rapid growth, with an average monthly coverage of users increased by 11 times compared with March of that year, with an average growth rate of more than 40%; The average monthly video views increased by 23 times, with an average monthly increase of 60%.

On October 16, 2015, Alibaba acquired Oneness Group (formerly known as Youku Tudou) for US$5.6 billion in cash (about 35.6 billion yuan).
