Alibaba Group was founded in 1999 in Hangzhou, China, by 18 people led by Jack Ma, a former English teacher. Our founders founded the company to serve the interests of small businesses, believing that the Internet can level the playing field, allow small businesses to expand their business through innovation and technology, and be better positioned to compete in the domestic or global market.
