History of VANS
1966-1969: Paul Van Doren founded Vans: Paul Van Doren and three partners founded the Van Doren Rubber Company, which opened on March 16 with a factory and store at 704 Broadway East in Anaheim. From 1900 until the factory was founded, there were only three companies in the United States that produced vulcanized rubber-soled shoes, Randy's, Keds and Converse. And from then on, there was Vans. In its early days, Vans was just a shoe manufacturer and made and sold its own, and on the first morning of the store's opening, 12 customers walked in and bought a variety of styles of shoes. At that time, the shoes were not named, only numbered.
1970-1979: Vans patented a muffin outsole, and later in the Kesen era, Vans began developing shoes for street skateboarding with better grip, durability and shock absorption. During the development of the sole, Vans' sole design engineers accidentally discovered that the vulcanized sole was very "sticky", so they often discussed and observed their various movements with BMX players and street skateboarders, and gradually improved them, and finally developed Vans' famous muffin outsole.
1980-1989: Exploding in the Crazy Popularity, Sean Penn (played by Jeff Spicoli) in the Fast Time at Ridgemont High film also made a special feature of Slip-On, which caused Vans Slip on to become a national pandemic as the film became popular. Paul Van Doren didn't want to sell his shoes outside of California, but he had no choice because as soon as the movie came out, people everywhere wanted to get the VANS Slip-On checker!
In the early '80s, Vans crossed over to other sports and sneakers, and we tried to embrace everything in order to compete with other sneaker companies, from baseball, basketball, soccer... Even kickboxing to other stunt sneakers, but that's another area of expertise entirely. Finally we started to pay for the wrong strategy, and while the core skateboard shoes were a hit, it couldn't balance the debt burden of the wrong decisions, and we finally filed for bankruptcy protection.
Return to normal
Despite Vans' financial difficulties, we never give up on our commitment to quality to our customers! Finally, with the support of McConval-Deluit Bank, Vans passed the dark period of financial imbalance. At the same time, Vans' first pair of skateboarding shoes named Steve Caballero was officially launched.
1990-1999: Staying on the road: Vans began to incorporate his attitude to life into various extreme sports, music, and art, so Vans sponsored large-scale events such as the Triple Crown of Skateboarding, the Warped concert tour... Wait. In Orange County, California, Vans created the first theme park in the world of roller skating, with more than 50,000 square feet of rideable space and a well-known bowl run that will produce more than 1,000 top roller skaters in the United States over the next five years. Geoff Rowley signed with Vans to become a professional skateboarder at Vans, and the co-branded shoe under the Geoff Rowley name was officially launched.
2000-Now: When the Street Meets the Beach: Vans begins to launch the first "Girl" collection of street and beach styles, including shoes, clothing, accessories... And so on, and start selling strongly. High-end fashion boutique, Vans officially launches the Vault Designer Shoes, Valut Designer Shoes, both in terms of materials and design, inviting the leading designers of contemporary fashion and art to collaborate. Vans returned to its identity as the original custom shoe manufacturer, and began to provide a service on the Vans.com that allows anyone to log in freely and design their own shoes, as long as they provide the correct information, they can deliver their own shoes to your doorstep on time.
What's next for Vans: Vans will continue to evolve and pursue originality that is very different from other brands, and will continue to inspire the next generation of designers and the next generation of roller skaters to create high-quality products.
