Otis brand introduction

Otis OTISlogo
Otis is the pioneer of the modern elevator industry, and has long been the world's largest elevator supplier and service provider, with elevator sales accounting for more than 20% of the global elevator market share. Otis elevators are used in 12 of the world's 20 most famous landmarks, including the Statue of Liberty in the United States, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Sydney Opera House, and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower in Shanghai. Compared with the excellence of the public elevator market, Otis's home elevator market is less conspicuous and is not the brand's key business.

Otis entered the Chinese market in 1984 and established its first joint venture in Tianjin, and in the following 20 years, it has set up seven joint ventures, four manufacturing bases and three R&D centers in seven cities including Tianjin, Beijing and Shanghai. However, strictly speaking, only Tianjin Otis and Otis Electromechanical are known as Otis elevators in China, and there is a gap between the quality and after-sales maintenance level of other joint venture sub-brands and the original factory's own brands.

The core technology of Otis Elevator is the use of composite steel belts. Compared with the traditional wire rope with the same load capacity, the steel belt is small in size and light in weight, but contains more strands of steel wire, the safety factor is higher, and the volume of the main machine is 70% smaller than that of other products, which can greatly save construction space and cost. With the rubber shock-absorbing pad installed with the steel belt, it can reduce the vibration of the low-noise gearless device, isolate the noise emitted by the adjacent machine room as much as possible, and make the elevator run very quietly and smoothly.

In 2021, Otis released a new generation of intelligent product Otis-E home elevator, but there is only one Homelift model currently on sale. Otis Homelift is imported from Japan, different from the traditional top host, Otis installs the drive device at the bottom of the hoistway, generally in the basement, which will reduce noise and avoid interference to the top floor room.

Otis home elevators have their own complete safety contingency measures. Due to the particularity of the villa, the property and maintenance are generally inaccessible. When the user is trapped in the elevator, press the self-rescue button, the elevator can slowly descend to the leveling position, and then open the car door to escape. In the event of a power outage, the elevator doors automatically open when the elevator is operated to the nearest stop floor or first floor.

The basic performance design of Otis Homelift is in line with the home elevator standard implemented in Taiwan, with a rated speed of 0.33m/s and a maximum load of only 240 kg, which is not outstanding compared with common home elevator parameters. Since there is only one model of home elevator, Otis has limited applicable civil engineering conditions, and the standard hoistway needs to be 1350mm*1450mm, the top floor is 2400mm, and the pit is 550mm. If there is no ready-made elevator shaft at home, you can contact the staff to give a suitable installation plan after on-site investigation. Otis' maintenance service team covers a wide range of areas, so it is convenient to use and maintain in the later stage.
