The University of Nottingham Ningbo China is the first Sino-foreign cooperative university in China to introduce high-quality teaching resources from world-class universities, with independent legal personality and independent campuses, and was jointly founded by the University of Nottingham and Zhejiang Wanli University with the approval of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. The school is headed by Professor Yang Fujia, President of the University of Nottingham, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and former President of Fudan University, and Professor Nicol Myers as Executive President. According to the authoritative rankings published by Times Higher Education and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the University of Nottingham is ranked among the top 100 universities in the world.

The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) aims to be "first-class academic achievement and first-class international talents", combining the advantages of the University of Nottingham with the actual needs of China's social and economic development, and introducing a series of world-class degree courses, so that Chinese students can obtain world-class higher education at a lower cost. All undergraduate and postgraduate courses are taught in English, with the same teaching assessment system as the University of Nottingham, and a dedicated English Language Teaching Centre to develop students' academic English skills.

The school is located in Ningbo University Park, covering an area of 887 acres, with a construction area of more than 200,000 square meters, with more than 4,700 students and more than 360 faculty members from more than 30 countries and regions in the world.
