Founded in 2005 and located in Sanya, Hainan Province, Sanya College is invested by Geely Group, a global enterprise, and is the earliest and largest private undergraduate college in Sanya, filling the gap of higher education in central and southern Hainan Province. With its rapid development and outstanding progress, the university stands out among the private universities in China and becomes one of the fastest-growing and most competitive comprehensive private universities in China.
The school campus covers an area of 3,000 acres, with a total building area of 517,700 square meters and a total investment of 3 billion yuan, with 16 teaching colleges and 65 undergraduate majors, involving 9 disciplines such as law, literature, economics, management, engineering, science, agriculture, education, and art. It has modern teaching and living facilities such as academic exchange center, art center, experimental center, computer center, standard swimming pool, golf training ground, modern sports field, etc., and the school also has 2 high-tech libraries with a collection of more than 2 million books. In 2010, it has formed an undergraduate school with 20,000 students.

In 2016, the Hainan Provincial People's Government and the Sanya Municipal People's Government signed a contract to jointly establish Sanya College, and made every effort to promote the joint construction of Sanya College by the province and the city to prepare for the establishment of Sanya University.

For more than ten years, the university has continuously promoted the construction of Hainan International Tourism Island with the strength of the university. Focusing on the development of new business formats on Hainan International Tourism Island, the school offers special majors such as golf management, cruise management and service, water sports management, and marine communication.
