Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is a new type of international university approved by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and jointly established by Xi'an Jiaotong University and the University of Liverpool. It is currently the only Sino-foreign cooperative university in China that has a bachelor's degree from the People's Republic of China and a degree awarding right from the University of Liverpool.

Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University selects and hires teachers according to the standards of world-renowned universities, and currently has more than 400 teachers, of which 80% are foreigners. The teachers of the professional courses all have doctoral degrees from internationally renowned universities and have rich teaching and research experience. Since 2011, XJTLU has hired top international education headhunters to recruit high-end talents from all over the world, and world-class scholars such as Professor David O'Connor, President of the Protein Research Association of the United Kingdom, have joined XJTLU full-time.
Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University recruits undergraduate and postgraduate students at home and abroad, and accepts exchange students from foreign universities, with more than 7,000 registered students and more than 100 overseas students from more than 20 countries and regions around the world. Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University offers 23 majors in science, engineering, management and literature, all of which are taught in English, except for public basic courses.

XJTLU students have achieved outstanding results in world-class competitions such as the American Collegiate Mathematical Contest in Modeling, the IBM Business Challenge, and other world-class competitions. 96% of the first batch of graduates went on to pursue master's and doctoral studies at world-renowned universities, and more than 10% went to the world's top 10 universities (according to The Times Global University Rankings 2010). 90% of the graduates of the second batch received admission letters from world-renowned universities for master's or doctoral studies, and nearly 10% were admitted to the top 10 universities in the world (according to the Times Global University Rankings 2011). More than 20 people received offers from Oxford or Cambridge universities, and more than 100 were accepted by Imperial College London or the London School of Economics and Political Science. In addition, dozens of people go directly to the doctorate. Yang Yifan, Wu Minhua and other four people who live in the same dormitory for communication engineering majors, three were admitted to Cambridge University and one was admitted to Imperial College, which was praised as "the best female dormitory in Sioux City".
With the development direction of creating a research-oriented international university, integrating the resources of the two countries and the three universities, and serving the local economic and social development, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University has built a number of internationally advanced laboratories and a series of high-level research centers represented by the biological science laboratory, and became the supporting unit of the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2009. In less than six years since its establishment, XJTLU has undertaken nearly 50 national, provincial and municipal scientific research projects, and has officially become a member of the national "863 Program" since 2012.

Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is continuing to explore and leverage the advantages of its own unique model and global educational resources to achieve the planned goals in the next five years: the total number of students will reach 10,000, of which 10% to 20% will be postgraduate students, and about 10% will be overseas students, and the teaching team will grow to 700-800 people, and about 30 high-level characteristic majors will be built, so as to initially realize the development vision of "a research-oriented, unique, world-recognized Chinese university and an international university on Chinese soil".
