The school was funded by Shanghai Jianqiao (Group) Co., Ltd. in April 2000. In April 2001, the school was approved as "Shanghai Jianqiao Vocational and Technical College", mainly engaged in higher vocational education at the junior college level; In 2003, the school was listed as one of the 11 exemplary higher vocational colleges in Shanghai. In September 2005, with the approval of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and the record of the Ministry of Education, it was agreed to establish "Shanghai Jianqiao College" on the basis of Shanghai Jianqiao Vocational and Technical College, and the school became a full-time ordinary higher education institution focusing on undergraduate education. In September 2006, the first batch of undergraduate students registered; In July 2010, the university was approved as a bachelor's degree-granting institution. On the basis of being awarded the "Shanghai Civilized Unit" for six consecutive years, the school was awarded the "National Civilized Unit" for the first time in February 2015. In the autumn of 2015, the school was relocated from Pudong Kangqiao to Pudong Lingang New Town. The school is the first private university in Shanghai to obtain the qualification of international student enrollment, and currently has 70 international students.
