CHINA RECORD CORPORATION (CRC) WAS ESTABLISHED IN MAY 1949, AND HAS CONTINUED TO GROW AND DEVELOP ON THE BASIS OF THE OLD CHINESE RECORD INDUSTRY SUCH AS THE GREAT CHINA RECORD COMPANY, THE BAIDAI RECORD COMPANY, AND THE VICTORY RECORD COMPANY BEFORE THE LIBERATION, AND IS THE LARGEST, OLDEST AND MOST RESOURCEFUL NATIONAL AUDIO-VISUAL PUBLISHING INSTITUTION IN CHINA, HEADQUARTERED IN BEIJING. Originally subordinate to the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, it was decoupled from the government in 1999 and led by the Central Enterprise Working Committee, and in 2003 it was under the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council.
China Record Corporation consists of 7 wholly-owned subsidiaries including China Record Shanghai Company, China Record Guangzhou Company, China Record Chengdu Company, China Record Shenzhen Company, Beijing Record Factory, China Drama Publishing House and Audiovisual World Magazine, and 5 holding companies including China Singing Shengli Audio-Visual Co., Ltd. and China Singing Arts Music Co., Ltd., as well as 2 third-level companies including Shanghai United Disc Co., Ltd. and Shanghai China Singing Special Equipment Machinery Factory. For more than 60 years, China Record Corporation has unswervingly shouldered the sacred duty and solemn mission of the national team in the record industry, carried forward the excellent national culture, prospered socialist literary and artistic creation, controlled advanced science and technology equipment, and faithfully recorded and widely disseminated hundreds of thousands of excellent music, songs, operas, quyi, literature, films, TV dramas, dances, science and education, literature and other works through constantly updated records, cassettes, CDs and other media carriers, and successively provided more than 700 literary and artistic groups. More than 4,000 artists and actors have recorded nearly 60,000 pieces (boxes) of records, audio tapes, video tapes, CDs and other programs, with a total sales volume of more than 1 billion pieces (boxes), and the products are sold all over the country.
The China Record Corporation has preserved and accumulated 130,000 metal stencils, 45,000 pieces of magnetic recording tape, and more than 100,000 pieces (pieces) of works, which basically include the outstanding works and treasures created and performed in the fields of music, opera and quyi in China in the 20th century.
China Record Corporation has organized nine "China Golden Record Awards" awards, and hundreds of famous Chinese and foreign artists and a number of art groups who have made outstanding contributions to China's record industry have won this honor, and all walks of life, especially the cultural and artistic circles, have attached great importance to this honor.
China Record Corporation is committed to the exchange of culture and art between China and foreign countries, introduces and publishes a large number of domestic and foreign records, and has established good cooperative relations with international record companies and counterparts in the United States, Japan, South Korea and other countries and regions, and is the first batch of Chinese audio-visual publishing institutions to join the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) and the International Association of Audio-Visual Archives (IASA).
