Founded in Clackamas, Oregon in 1990 (founded in California in 1988), Butterfly Knife Company initially produced the Bali-Song series of knives, which were prototypes imported from external suppliers and machined in-house. Like most other companies, Butterfly started out with a lack of capital and large plans, using second-hand equipment and limited resources to sustain production.
Soon, with the innate tenacity and undying passion of entrepreneurs, butterfly knives gradually matured and began to prosper. When the product line reached the level where it could design and produce itself, the company began to introduce new equipment and technology, including the first batch of laser equipment, which made Butterfly Knives the first tool manufacturer in China to have these equipment. The open-mindedness and pragmatic attitude led the company to become a pioneer in several industries in the following years.
Butterfly Company has made a breakthrough in introducing non-traditional materials and modern manufacturing methods into the knife industry, creating a new field, not only making knives better, but also inevitably making higher-level knives. This is just the beginning. In 1991, the Designer Series was launched, which combined the designs and manufactures of several artisanal designers. Butterfly is good at combining the experience of handmade knife makers with its own rich manufacturing experience, making it easier to provide more modern designs to product innovation and mass production.
In 1996, after years of hard work, the company's development entered a new stage. Butterfly Knives was relocated to a new 35,000-square-foot facility, a modern building, and the modern equipment and facilities necessary for production that were seen as the embodiment of a higher standard of professional knife manufacturing.
