Lotus Lane Hanbang Restaurant (Wenhao Square Store) - business reviews

Lotus root is planted in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Hubei, Henan and other places, among which Hubei lotus root is crisp and less residue, fine white and tender and sweet in taste, and is the most famous. Classic Hubei dishes such as pork ribs and lotus root soup, dry stir-fried lotus root, and lotus root clips are made with local lotus root, which is one of the core ingredients of Hubei cuisine. Different dishes are suitable for different varieties of lotus root, and it is advisable to use powder root for stewed soup, while crisp lotus root is required for stir-fry and cold dressing. In summer, the lotus root has less starch content and is more crisp, while in winter the starch content is higher and more powdery. Restaurants that specialize in adapting their dishes to the season, as is the case with Lotus Lane. Lotus Alley focuses on lotus root and offers a variety of dishes, both traditional and innovative, which is a good choice for Wuhan to taste lotus root dishes.

Lotus Lane opened in 2016, and since its establishment, it has been positioned as a Hanbang restaurant, and at the same time, lotus root cuisine has been used as a characteristic signboard. Hanbang cuisine is a self-created vocabulary of Lotus Lane, which is a general term for the classic home-cooked dishes of old Wuhan, which mostly overlaps with the famous dishes of Hubei cuisine, and is more of a marketing method for merchants. Lotus Alley has a variety of dishes, including desserts, hot dishes, soups, cold dishes, barbecue and snacks, while Hanbang cuisine accounts for less than one-third, which is related to the small number of famous Hanbang dishes. Even restaurants that focus on Hubei cuisine or Hanbang cuisine have had to introduce their own fusion cuisine and other cuisines.

The most well-known lotus root dish in Hubei cuisine is the pork rib lotus root soup, and the lotus root lane is an improvement on the traditional lotus root soup. Hubei Lotus Root Soup only uses pork ribs and lotus root as soup ingredients, while Lotus Root Lane adds pig's trotters to make the soup richer and more fragrant. The restaurant uses Bahe lotus root, one of the four famous products in eastern Hubei Province, which is sweet and juicy, and more powdery than ordinary lotus root. The lotus root soup is milky white and sweet, and most Hubei restaurants are lighter.

Hubei cuisine is long with balls, and lotus root is also the raw material. After boiling into a paste, the lotus root puree is stirred with shiitake mushrooms, ginger onions and lotus root juice to form a round ball, and then fried to make Hubei special snack lotus root balls. The lotus root produced by Lotus Lane is golden in color and glutinous inside, and diners who prefer crispy taste will be a little disappointed. Although it is fried, the lotus root is not very greasy, and you can still taste the sweet taste of the lotus root. Diners mostly use lotus root flour as an after-dinner dessert, and osmanthus candy is added to the lotus root flour, which is sweet and greasy. There are also dishes such as lotus root clips, Guiyu honey sauce lotus root and other dishes in Lotus Root Lane, which are passable in taste and the level is the same as most restaurants.

In addition to the lotus root series, Lotus Root Lane has also launched a number of improved dishes. Chicken feet king almost every table must order, chicken feet marinated into the flavor of soft and rotten, lightly sip the meat to remove the bones. The chicken feet are slightly spicy with a hint of sweetness, which is different from the traditional savory version. The Wuchang fish is divided into two flavors: steamed and scallion, and the preparation method is basically the same as that of most restaurants, only chicken soup is added, but the taste is not much different. The white green jade shrimp dumplings resemble small cabbage, and the vinegar is injected into the filling with a straw, which is more special, but the taste is average. In addition to Hanbang cuisine, the restaurant also provides Western and Hunan dishes such as French roast chicken, chopped pepper fish head, Mao Xuewang, etc., to cater to the tastes of more diners.

There are now 2 branches in Lotus Lane, each with its own unique design. The Optics Valley store is a three-storey building, decorated in imitation of the old city of Wuhan during the Republic of China. The exterior of the restaurant resembles a concession building, while the interior resembles the streets of Wuhan in the first half of the 19th century, with black-and-white cityscape photographs hanging on the walls and old objects decorating the entire place. The private room is named after Wuhan Old Street, and the cashier is called the account room, which exudes nostalgic style everywhere and is very unique. The Hankou store is in the Jiangnan Chinese style, with ink paintings contrasting with canopy boats, and animated projections of ancient stories, which are antique.
