Bolaiju is transliterated from the English word "Bridge", which means bridge, and aims to be a bridge between readers and books. In the hearts of Chongqing's literary and artistic youth, Bolaiju has a pivotal position, because of its early opening time and excellent operation on the Internet. Bolaiju, which operates in the form of a book bar, focuses on the model of "borrowing and selling", and the number and variety of books are not much, which are relatively conventional.
Bolaiju has opened three physical stores in Chongqing, located in Nanping Xiexin, Hongjin Avenue Shin Kong Tiandi and Jiulongpo Olympic Stadium, among which Nanping Xiexin store has the most prosperous business. Quietly located in a corner of the city, it has not been forgotten. The exterior wall of the book bar is made of floor-to-ceiling glass windows, making the store very spacious and bright. The brown bookshelves are neatly arranged, and the arches above the bookshelves are in the style of a unique style. The desks are staggered and decorated with potted plants. The elegant interior environment creates a comfortable reading atmosphere: desks are scattered between the shelves, separated by bookshelves, and there is a good sense of privacy. The table is covered with a tablecloth, which makes the whole store full of literary style. Shin Kong Place, on the other hand, has a brighter color palette and a more open layout, but on a smaller scale.
Strictly speaking, Bolaiju is not a high-quality bookstore, similar to most existing physical bookstores in Chongqing, which do not provide a large number of new books for sale, and a considerable part of the nearly 10,000 books are in the collection, which can only be borrowed in the store and cannot be sold. Many of the used books on the shelves are donated by guests, and each of these books will be labeled with the name of the donor, so that the borrower can have a token of appreciation. It is worth mentioning that many of the books borrowed in the store will leave traces of their predecessors, such as the after-reading impression on the post-it notes, and readers will be able to communicate through time when they see them.
In short, the business model of Bolaiju is the same as that of many bookstores today, selling no longer books, but a way of life.
