Chuqimen Eel Hot Pot is one of the few 24-hour hot pots in Chongqing, and if you want to have a steaming spicy hot pot in the middle of the night, this is the perfect place to be. The hot pot restaurant is adjacent to the Baixiang Street block, and several buildings are all built in the style of the Republic of China, with simple blue brick exterior walls and facades, and the doors and windows are decorated with a coupon structure and a Western-style dome style, giving the overall historical atmosphere. Diners can also stop and stroll around Baixiang Street before and after dining to get a glimpse of Chongqing's old style.
In ancient times, Chuqi Gate was one of the most important of the six city gates opened along the Yangtze River in the lower half of Chongqing. Chongqing mountain city is steep, from the geographical point of view, the center of Chongqing and the intersection of the two roads occupy the top of the mountain for the upper half of the city, the Yangtze River along the Jialing River is located at the foot of the mountain for the lower half of the city, and Chuqimen is the fortress connecting the upper half of the city and the lower half of the city since the Ming Dynasty. Since the 90s, the lower half of the city has undergone many renovations, and many of the original old shops have long been relocated, but what is surprising is that the Chuqimen eel hot pot has been almost completely preserved in the same place for more than 20 years, and the only change is that it has moved from a tiled house a few meters away to the current two-story building.
Although the name of the restaurant is eel hot pot, it is different from the form in which the ingredients are boiled into the soup base when the fish hot pot and steak hot pot are served, and the bottom of the pot in Chuqimen is only the base material, which is no different from ordinary hot pot. The eel is the pride of Chuqimen, all the eels are freshly killed and drawn after customers order, and it takes less than 20 minutes from processing to serving, and the freshness is excellent, and local diners come here to order several portions at almost every table. Most of the eels selected by the store are in the growth cycle, with a slender head, which has the advantage of being properly thick after slicing, and the entrance is tender and elastic, unlike some adult eels with thick meat and rigid taste. The hairy belly and duck intestines also show the heroism of the store, the two types of dishes are based on catties by default, and the three plates are ordered on one catty, and the portions are extremely large, among which the hairy belly is crispy and refreshing, the duck intestines are fat and tender, and the quality of the ingredients is not inferior to Chen glasses hot pot.
Chuqimen eel hot pot is located in the upper perimeter of Chuqimen Wharf, next to the antique block of Baixiang Street, with a strong historical atmosphere. The restaurant has two floors, and only the second floor is open at noon and late at night, so customers need to go up to the second floor to eat. The dining area is simply furnished, with the walls, tables and chairs covered with traces of age, but it is well cleaned up and does not feel too bad. The service staff are all middle-aged women, and although they are not enthusiastic, they are quick to move and meet the needs of customers.
