Épure - Merchant Reviews

Located in Hong Kong's shopping destination Harbour City, Épure's exterior hustle and bustle has not been disturbed, and its beachfront terrace remains serene and elegant. In 2017, Épure was awarded one Michelin star for the first time, and in 2018 it was awarded the title for the second consecutive year. As a young Michelin-starred restaurant, Épure is less confusing and more friendly and lively than similar hotel-type Western restaurants, so it has won the love of many young diners.

The restaurant is helmed by Executive Chef Nicolas Boutin, who has a proven track record of studying at the three-Michelin-starred Troisgros restaurant in France and at top restaurants such as Four Seasons Hotels and Mandarin Oriental. The style of cooking of the dishes is evident in the strict choice of ingredients. Most of the ingredients are delivered directly from France, so the menu changes depending on the season. To complement the menu, Épure has a wide selection of wines, from affordable prices to upscale options for diners to choose from.

The restaurant's dinner is served with a six- or eight-course chef's selection menu, where you can savour creative dishes that combine French classics with fashion. The appetizer is served with pre-dinner snacks and bread, all of which are of excellent quality. The next appetizer is tuna fillet, which has a slightly smoky taste and is relatively fresh. Another dish of oxtail prawn seafood crisp box, butter puff pastry ring fried to the right place, loosen and crispy in the mouth, and pour lobster soup on the spot after serving it to add umami. The main dishes are A4 grade Wagyu beef and duck to choose from, the Wagyu beef fat content is just right, the entrance is plump but not greasy, and the cabbage onion is just right to relieve the greasy. Desserts include cognac orange wine soufflé, strawberry sorbet, cheese platter, etc., all of which are classic French desserts and worth trying. Finally, choose a cup of tea or coffee, complete with a dessert plate, which is quite flavorful of English afternoon tea.

There is the Épure Café at the entrance to the restaurant, through which you have to push open the brass relief door to enter the restaurant. Designed by Yabu Pushelburg, an internationally renowned design school, Epure's interiors are inspired by the hunting palace of the French Emperor Louis XVI. The semi-circular box seats are romantic and protect the privacy between adjacent tables, and there is also an open-air café outside the transparent floor-to-ceiling glass, like a small European garden, with a beautiful and charming view of Victoria Harbour. Most of the staff at the restaurant are young men, soft-spoken, considerate and attentive, and will explain the menu and how to eat for diners who do not understand English. The restaurant's dining atmosphere is comfortable and uninhibited, compared to other star restaurants that are difficult to book, Épure is much more down-to-earth, and there are usually seats on non-holidays, but for a better dining experience, it is still recommended to book a day or so in advance.
