The name Nanxiaoguan is not deeply rooted in people's hearts, but when it comes to its parent company, Xiaonanguo, many people will hear of it. Founded in Shanghai in 1987, Xiao Nan Guan opened its first restaurant in Hong Kong in June 2012 and was quickly named one of the "Top 5 Best Dining Experience Restaurants in Hong Kong" by Forbes. Shanghai's Nan Bistro is almost a replica of Hong Kong's Nan Bistro, with the slight difference that the Shanghai store has added some strong product lines, such as spicy dishes.
The small cages in the South Restaurant are presented in a new way, and each one is placed on a small basket. The small cage is moderately large, the skin looks very thin, and it tastes very tough, with a little woody fragrance. The soup is very translucent, fresh in taste, and has no sweetness, which belongs to a typical Shanghai xiaolong. The meat filling is tender and refreshing, and it tastes salty and fresh. Single-course soup would be a good choice to pair with xiaolong. The soup is clear and the flavor is mainly umami, but you can still drink the flavor of pepper. The fried tofu in the soup is very tender and smooth and refreshing. The shutter bun is stuffed with meat in the middle, and although the meat filling is not large, the shutter itself tastes good.
The decoration style of the South Restaurant is very bright, mainly white, light green, and wood color, revealing some small fresh literary atmosphere, and some shops will also put on permanent brand bicycles that are missed by Shanghainese. The hit TV series "Ode to Joy 2" was also filmed in the Shanghai store of Nanxiaoguan.
The service of the South Restaurant is also commendable, there is a waiter to lead the seat when you enter the door, and the serving speed is not too slow, and the overall dining experience is better.
