The restaurant opened in 2001, and the "Shanghai Old Station" is named after the two "celebrity carriages" collected in the backyard of the restaurant: the 97318 official car produced by the Hannover Rolling Stock Factory, which was once Cixi's court car; The 97431 special vehicle produced by Yekaterin Vehicle Factory was used as a car for Vice Chairman Song Qingling after the founding of New China. The rich dining environment is the biggest selling point of Shanghai Old Station.

Chef Shi Kai is the third generation of Li Borong, a master of local cuisine, and has worked in the restaurant for 16 years. The production of the old station has not been improved too much, and the methods and tastes are relatively old-fashioned, but some dishes have also been refined to the mainstream. For example, the Shanghai smoked fish in the cold dish is made with pomfret instead of the traditional herring, which is thick and fine. The old station makes its cold dishes hot, and it is still warm on the table, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, but the flavor is not enough, and the fragrance is not full enough.

The hot dish of quail eggs and braised pork is a must-order signature dish of the restaurant, the braised pork sauce of the old station is thick in red oil, the fat and thin are appropriate, the meat skin is hard, the juice is too much, the saltiness is too heavy, and the quail eggs are full of flavor and the skin is fragrant. The hairy crab in oil sauce at Shanghai Old Station is also an award-winning masterpiece, which is a thin-shelled hairy crab and fired with the oil sauce method of this gang, and the juice is thick and flavorful. Stir-fried shrimp is worth recommending, the river shrimp selected by the restaurant weighs 3 to 4 yuan each, the back tendon is removed by hand, starched by hand, and fried in the oil pan, the original flavor is the original food, fresh and tender, and the taste is very pleasing. In the backyard is a narrow-gauge steam locomotive and two historic train cars, one for the round table hall and the other for meetings and small restaurants, and seats in the train cars need to be reserved in advance. The restaurant service is not proportional to the environment, the waiter's professional quality is low, the style is loose, and the service quality needs to be improved urgently. Shanghai Laozhan opened a new branch in Pudong in 2017, with basically the same dishes and a lighter environment.
