After the closure of the MAO Livehouse on Gulou East Street was announced, Yugong Yishan, located next to the former site of the Qirui ruling government on Zhang Zizhong Road, took over MAO as the most influential music scene in Beijing. In 2003, the founder Lu Zhiqiang opened a "Lushang Coffee" in the West Gate of Tsinghua University, which is the predecessor of Yugong Yishan, where second-hand roses, Dou Wei and reflectors have been performed. In 2004, it moved to the north gate of Gongti, officially changed its name to Yugong Yishan, and transformed into Livehouse. In 2007, due to demolition, Yugong moved to Zhangzizhong Road, and since then, it has won the readers' favorite music live award selected by the magazine "That's Beijing" many times. Yugong Yishan undertakes a comprehensive variety of performance styles, with an annual performance volume of more than 200 performances, in their schedule, it can be seen that heavy, punk, jazz, rap, folk, various types of music are inclusive, almost every famous band in China has held a special performance here, even if it is a well-known foreign singer and band, if you want to hold a small performance in Beijing, Yugong Yishan often becomes their preferred venue. From the outside, Yugong Yishan is inconspicuous, the red wooden façade is not large, and if it were not for the glittering words "Yugong Yishan" next to it, I am afraid it would be difficult to believe that this is one of the most well-known music scenes in China. When I walked in, I knew that there was no cave, and the interior decoration went factory style, but due to the long time, neglected to repair, part of the wall has fallen off, and it is very mottled and vicissitudes. The venue only has a few seats near the wall and the bar, which is far away from the stage and the view is not very good, but Yugong Yishan has set up a large screen here to ensure that the audience sitting in the back can also see the performance on the stage. The rest of the area is all standing areas, spacious and can accommodate 500-700 people to watch the performance, and the audience's interactive needs such as POGO, diving, and driving a train can be met. The sound effect of Yugong Yishan is not the best, because it has been established for a long time, and the equipment has been a little old, so there is no big problem in dealing with folk songs, rap and other performances, but it will be more difficult if it is a heavy scene. For the best view, come in an hour or more to get a front-row seat, provided you can tolerate the roar of the speaker next to you. The wine list of Yugong Yishan is not very rich, the price of alcohol is generally about 4, 50 yuan, and the level can only be described as poor, if you must drink, it is recommended to avoid cocktails, juices, draft beer and other drinks that need to be operated by the barist, and it will be better to order a bottle of beer directly. If there is a need to store bags, Yugong Yishan provides a storage place at the entrance to store bags and clothes.
