Founded in 2004, Yew Wah Experimental School is located in the central area of Shenzhen, covering an area of 31,117 square meters and a construction area of 31,000 square meters. There are ample spaces for cultural and sports activities such as libraries, plastic tracks, football fields, piano classrooms and dance classrooms, and all classrooms are air-conditioned.
Around 2010 was the most glorious moment for Yew Wah, which ranked second in the city in terms of average score in the high school entrance examination for two consecutive years from 2008 to 2009, and third in the city in 2010 and 2011. In 2017, the number of students admitted to the four major schools of Yew Wah was 15, with a rate of 12.61%; 26 students were admitted to the Eight Universities, with a rate of 21.85%; 27 students were admitted to the top 10, with a rate of 22.69%. Its eight rates and top ten rates ranked 29th and 31st in the city, respectively.
Yew Wah's junior high school consists of Primary 6 (2) classes, Hua Cup classes, experimental classes, international classes and SSAT classes, of which Primary 6 (2) is the school's signboard, known as "Primary 3 2" (3 2: the key class of Shenzhen Middle School, you can take the college entrance examination in the second year of high school). Primary 6 (2) students are directly promoted from Grade 5 to Junior 1, adopting the 3 2 model, from Primary 6 to taking the college entrance examination, reducing the time by two years. The learning content is mainly based on Olympiad mathematics, the implementation of the sea of questions tactics, more homework, exams, monthly exams will also announce the ranking, the implementation of about 3% of the last elimination system, students are under greater pressure. In the second year of junior high school, Primary 6 (2) class will be renamed Huabei class.
Other classes, such as the experimental class, are aimed at the high school entrance examination; The international class also needs to take the high school entrance examination, but compared with the experimental class, there are more foreign teacher classes and more English classes, so there is a greater chance of being promoted to the International Department of Yew Wah High School. SSAT students do not take the high school entrance examination, but take the American SSAT test and enter a high school in the United States. For some students with poor grades, Yew Wah will persuade them to quit or suggest them to go abroad, so as to make the school's high school entrance examination results look better, but according to parents, this is only a rare phenomenon.
Yew Wah's classroom discipline is good, each class is equipped with cameras, and the class teacher's desk is located in the last row of the classroom, if the class teacher is not in class, the students are monitored by the class teacher all the time.
In terms of extra-curricular activities, Yew Wah has a tradition of studying tours, as far as Guangzhou and as far away as Europe and the United States, which require students to participate at their own expense, but fortunately it is not mandatory. In addition, the school also offers second classes such as flower arrangement, tea art, programming and fashion design to enrich students' extracurricular life. Although Yew Wah also has a number of clubs, students say that "almost all of them are empty shells", and there are few club activities, and the school does not support them.
Yew Wah is a boarding school, and students can also choose to go to school or have a day or school day care. There are three types of dormitories: 6-bed, 8-bed and 10-bed rooms, all of which are air-conditioned and provide hot water. The dormitory conditions for female students are poor compared to that of male students, mainly for 6 people, and the dormitory is relatively old and crowded. Boys are more likely to live in a newly built apartment building or in an older but more spacious 10-person room. Except for the underwear and socks, the rest of the clothes and bedding are washed and dried by the school laundry workers and delivered to the dormitories. Yew Wah boarding students are required to participate in evening self-study, while day and afternoon nursery students can apply not to participate. The school cafeteria provides three meals, and students generally report that the meals taste poor.
