Guangzhou Arkarta International Foundation School (AIC) is an IB member school accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) and is currently (2017) the only IB international school in Guangzhou that can enroll both international students and Chinese students. In August 2017, AIC moved from Baiyun District to Nansha District.
AIC offers a total of four grades of high school courses in 9~12, namely the first two years of the International Baccalaureate Preparatory Programme (Pre-DP) and the last two years of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). Secondary 2 or 3 students can apply for Year 9, Secondary 3 graduates can apply for Year 10, and students who have completed Senior 1 can apply for DP1 (the first year of the two-year IBDP programme).
AIC uses small class sizes of about 20 students per class, mainly in English, and is implemented and managed by a team of international teachers certified by the International Baccalaureate Organization. AIC's classroom focuses on interaction and discussion, creating different activity situations for students, and the seating is arranged in a semicircle that is more conducive to teacher-student communication and interaction, encouraging students to participate in interaction, and at the same time, it can stimulate students' imagination and guide students to explore and think more than simply teaching and instilling mode.
In terms of extracurricular activities, AIC has cooking, music, sports, community service, outdoor trips, etc., and students can join different activities according to their preferences, and can also create new projects to show their leadership skills. International schools with an IB curriculum require students to participate in these activities at least twice a week, as they are more likely to be preferred by universities if they have rich experiences and outstanding grades. Each semester, AIC also holds regular tripartite meetings between teachers, parents and students to give each student different help and let parents have a deeper understanding of students' classroom performance, learning outcomes and progress.
AIC's school cafeteria is set in accordance with international standards, employing professional catering companies to serve the ingredients, and the ingredients come from supermarkets such as Metro. The restaurant adopts a buffet form, a variety of Chinese and Western tableware is complete, taking care of students with different cultural backgrounds, the menu of lunch and dinner is fixed with 10 dishes and 1 soup, each dish is strictly produced according to the predetermined menu, and the dishes are not repeated during the week. The cafeteria staff provides the latest baked dishes in batches, so even teachers and students who are late do not have to worry about the quality of the meals.
In addition, AIC also covers the entire campus with WiFi network, which is convenient for students to view network resources at any time, and creates a teaching environment that supports Windows system "with mobile terminals", so that students' personal computers can be connected to on-campus printers and other devices, making daily learning and life more convenient. Parents can track their child's learning progress, view class schedules and attendance, and even get to know their child's teachers and view report cards at any time through the account and password provided by the school.
In terms of college application, AIC has professional teachers to guide students in college application work. From Year 10 onwards, students are already preparing for university applications – by choosing courses, determining the direction of the university, and working on the university application based on their interests, aspirations and abilities. The university counselor will select the countries and universities for the students according to their aspirations and abilities, and finally select 8 to 10 universities to apply. With this kind of college counseling service, students can successfully complete their university application without going through an intermediary.
Among the 2016 graduating students of AIC, 32 students received a total of 174 offers from overseas universities, with an average of 5.4 offers from 1 student, including New York University, Northwestern University, the University of Hong Kong, the University of St Andrews and other top universities in the world.
