Balenciaga's founder, Cristóbal Balenciaga, is known as a master of womenswear who is "uncompromising, fearless and creative". Born in 1895 in a small fishing village in Spain's Basque region, he opened a fashion salon in 1937 at 10 Avenue George V in Paris, France, and dominated the 20th century fashion circle with his sophisticated tailoring and noble style.
