Gibson has been a leader in the development of pickups, from the original "Bar" pickups, to the P-90 single-coil pickups, to the famous Humbucker humbucker pickups. In terms of the neck-to-body jointing process, unlike Fender's bolt-on and Rickenbacker's neck-through design, the set-neck connection has become a major feature of Gibson. That is, slotting in the body, allowing the neck to be embedded in it, and then gluing, is a more traditional way of making musical instruments, and its sustain effect is between the neck type and the bolt type.
 
Gibson first entered the electric bass scene in 1953 with the launch of the classic EB series (Gibson Electric Bass), which rivaled Fender's Precision Bass. Subsequently, in the continuous optimization and improvement, a series of electric basses such as EB2, EB3, Thunderbird Bass, Les Paul Bass, and RD Artist were developed successively.
 
Among them, the Thunderer bird (Thunderbird series) and EB series have attracted much attention. Produced in 1963, the Thunderer bird was Gibson's first bass with a long neck design concept, with a traditional, heavy, understated tone with a thick, distinct grain. It has been loved by well-known bass players such as Paul Gray and John Entwistle, and has been named one of the "Top 10 Famous Basses of All Time" by Guitarist magazine.
 
The EB Bass series has been highly regarded in rock circles since its launch in the 60s. Today, the new EB Bass series features a sturdy Cen wood body, a bonded maple neck, and a rosewood fingerboard. A new design has been made on the previous large magnetic dot passive pickups, integrating the Alnico rod magnet with a proprietary winding method to make a new humbucker pickup, with 2 push and pull volume control potentiometers and 1 tone control potentiometer, the timbre is more concentrated, thick and powerful like thunder.
 
Regrettably, Gibson has been mired in bankruptcy in recent years after failing to repay $500 million in debt on time. But in November 2018, the bankruptcy protection process ended, and creditors agreed that Gibson would continue to operate and provide it with a $135 million loan to operate. James Curleigh, the new president and CEO, said he was refocusing on running his core musical instrument business. It can be seen that Gibson is not as defeated as rumored, and its electric bass product line is still sold normally on the official website.
