The history of Wrigley products sold in China can be traced back to the 30s of the 20th century, when Wrigley products imported from the United States and Australia were already visible in the Chinese market. In 1989, Wrigley Chewing Gum Co., Ltd. was established in Guangzhou (renamed Wrigley Confectionery (China) Co., Ltd. in 2005). Today, Wrigley is a household name confectionery company and chewing gum manufacturer in China, with 3 factories, 1 Asia-Pacific R&D center, 36 branches and more than 8,000 colleagues (including contract workers) in China.

At present, Wrigley China's brand portfolio includes "Green Arrow ®" chewing gum and mints, "Yida ®" sugar-free chewing gum, "5" sugar-free chewing gum, "Yellow Arrow ®" chewing gum, "White Arrow ®" chewing gum, "Jinlang ®" chewing gum, "Dada ®" bubble gum, "Zhenzhibang ®" lollipops, "Sugus®" gummies and "Skittles® ®" sugar, etc.

 

Mars Inc. completes the acquisition of Wrigley Sugar Limited

McLean, VA, USA – October 6, 2008 – Mars Inc. ("Mars") today announced that it has successfully completed the acquisition of Wrigley Sugar Co., Ltd. ("Wrigley") following the approval of the transaction by Wrigley shareholders on September 25, 2008, and the receipt of all required regulatory approvals. All shares of Wrigley common stock and Class B common stock were acquired for $80 per share in cash, for a total of approximately $23 billion

Upon completion of the acquisition, Wrigley became a subsidiary of the family-owned Mars Inc. and will continue to retain its current headquarters in Chicago, Illinois. Wrigley will operate as a separate business unit, alongside Mars' existing Chocolate, Pet Care, Food & Beverage, and Systems Bioscience research divisions.

As part of the transaction, Mars handed over its global non-chocolate confectionery brands to Wrigley subsidiaries. The portfolio includes brands such as Skittles®, Starburst®, Tunes®, Lockets®, Rondo®, Kenman®, Skwinkles® and Lucas®, as well as production facilities in Scoresby, Australia, Porici, Czech Republic and Monterey, Mexico.
