On October 30, 2014, Lenovo Group and Google announced that Lenovo officially completed the acquisition of Motorola Mobility from Google, with a total acquisition of about 2.91 billion US dollars, and Lenovo immediately became the world's third largest smartphone manufacturer. It is reported that Lenovo will operate Motorola as a wholly-owned subsidiary, and its headquarters will continue to be located in Chicago, USA. Upon completion of the acquisition, nearly 3,500 employees from around the world will join Lenovo, including approximately 2,800 in the United States.
On November 11, 2015, Chen Xudong, president of Lenovo Mobile, announced the integration of product lines and a new organizational structure within Lenovo Mobile Business Group, and all Lenovo mobile businesses except Magic Factory will be merged into Motorola, which was acquired at the beginning of last year, claiming that the future Motorola team will be responsible for the design, development and manufacturing of smart phones, and promote rapid revenue growth by making better use of the complementary advantages of Lenovo and Motorola.
