M-Audio is a well-known audio brand under inMusic brands, which develops, designs and sells digital audio, MIDI interfaces, keyboards and MIDI controllers, synthesizers, multimedia speakers, studio monitors, DJ equipment, microphones and music production software. It has branches and offices in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Japan.
Music Soft, the predecessor of M-Audio in the U.S. (later renamed Midiman)Founded in the late 90s. Founder Tim Ryan is an engineer and Caltech graduate who co-founded the Con Brio advanced digital synthesizer and developed a range of MIDI software for Commodore and today's Apple computers, including Studio One and Studio Two, two of the best-selling programs at the time. Tim Ryan immediately introduced hardware solutions for MIDI, audio, and computer connectivity for music production.
Midiman's product line at the time consisted mainly of small, affordable MIDI hardware solutions, synchronization devices, and peripherals. The first Midiman product was called the "Midiman", a device that synchronized MIDI with a tape recorder. The company's first mainstream success products were the Syncman and Syncman Pro VITC-to-LTC/MTC converters. The Midisport and Bi-Port series of MIDI interfaces that followed were a huge success in the audio market at the time and formed the core of the company's product line.
Following the success of MIDI interface products, Midiman immediately introduced the Flying Cow and Flying Calf digital-to-analog/analog-to-digital converters, as well as the first audio interface product: the DMAN 2044 with 4 inputs and 20-bit quantization accuracy.
In 2000, with the launch of the Delta series of PCI audio interface products, the company launched a new brand "M-Audio" in the United States, and adopted it as a new brand for the audio industry. Over the next few years, Midiman continued to expand the company, partnering with Propellerhead Software, Ableton, ArKaos and Groove Tubes. The success of Midiman and M-Audio products in the United States, as well as the expansion of distribution channels, led to a 128 percent growth in 2001 and a 68 percent growth in 2002. This made Midiman the fastest-growing audio company in the U.S. at the time.
Following the success of MIDI and audio interface products in the market, Midiman entered the MIDI keyboard controller market in 2002 with the launch of a portable 25-key keyboard, the Oxygen 8. Oxygen8 not only created the Oxygen MIDI keyboard series that has been used to this day, but also successfully opened the MIDI controller product line of M-Audio in the United States. 2002 was also the year M-Audio entered the studio monitor market in the United States, with the launch of the Studiophile SP5B. Also at the end of the same year, Midiman officially changed the name of the entire company to "M-Audio" in the United States, and the name M-Audio in the United States was the brand name of Midiman's audio product division from 1999 to 2002.
In 2003, Midiman acquired Evolution Electronics LTD, a manufacturer of MIDI controllers. The following year, Avid Technology acquired M-Audio in the United States. Avid paid about $174 million for M-AUDIO in the United States, nearly eight times the company's book value at the time. The founder, Mr. Tim Ryan, retains his position as Managing Director of the company.
Following Avid's acquisition of M-Audio in the United States (2004), Digidesign and M-Audio in the United States collaborated to launch a special edition of the software product, Pro Tools M-Powered. The software was based on Digidesign's flagship product at the time, Pro Tools, and was compatible with a range of personal recording sound cards sold by M-Audio in the United States. M-Audio continues to position its products in computer music production and home-grade recording, and pays more attention to the portability of its products. Trigger Finger (a USB MIDI pad controller that sends MIDI signals through 16 pads to trigger audio), iControl, a dedicated controller for GarageBand, and ProjectMix I/O, a mix controller with an integrated audio interface, followed.
The company launched the Oxygen series of MIDI keyboards in three sizes, the Keystation series with basic features and a lower price tag, and later the Axiom series of USB MIDI keyboard controllers.
At that time, audio interface products were still the main product line of M-Audio, including the Delta series of PCI audio interfaces, the FastTrack series of USB audio interfaces, and the ProFire series of FireWire audio interfaces. Similarly, the Studiophile BX Series, Studiophile CX Series, the high-end Studiophile DSM Series, and the AV Series of multimedia speakers continue to be launched in the monitor product line.
At the same time, M-Audio in the United States has also added some new product lines. In 2005, M-AUDIO launched the Black Box, an integrated guitar effect and audio interface that provides amp simulation, tempo sync effects, and drum accompaniment. It's worth noting that the Black Box's drum accompaniment feature was developed in collaboration with Roger Linn, the father of drum machines. A digital electric piano, the ProKeys 88, brings M-Audio into the field of musical instrument development. M-Audio has partnered with Ultimate Ears (UE) to launch the IE series of headphones, and has also entered the field of digital voice recorders with the MicroTrack series. The subsequent introduction of Torq software and supporting hardware allowed M-Audio to enter the digital DJ space.
In 2012, M-Audio was acquired by inMusic. After leaving Avid, M-Audio began to launch a new series of in-house products. In terms of MIDI keyboard controllers, including Keystation, Axiom, and Oxygen MIDI keyboard controller series, it provides a variety of options in terms of different key counts, controller types, and functions. In terms of monitors, the well-received BX series continues, of which the BX5 D2 has long occupied the top sales chart as an entry-level monitor; and the M3 professional monitoring series with 3-way coaxial technology, which presents 3-way and coaxial technology at the highest cost performance. As a heavyweight product line of M-Audio in the United States, the M-Track series of audio interfaces has been launched. The products have gone through the first generation of products (M-Track, M-Track Plus, M-Track Quad, M-Track Eight) and the second generation of products (M-Track MK II and M-Track Plus MK II), in addition to the United States M-Audio has also launched Pulsar, Nova, Sputnik and other microphone products, Trigger Finger Pro pad controller and other new products. Continue to expand the company's product coverage. It provides a wealth of choices for a variety of application scenarios such as home recording, professional recording studios, and stages, and has become one of the hottest audio interface brands in the market.
