JUKI Group was invited by the Shanghai Municipal Government in 1990 to invest and set up factories in China. In 2001, Heavy Machinery (China) Investment Co., Ltd. was established as the headquarters in China, and now it has four factories and two sales companies, and continues to pursue further development of the company.

JUKI has been doing business in China since the beginning of the reform and opening up, for example, in 1979, as a Japanese company, it held an exclusive sewing machinery and equipment exhibition in Shanghai for the first time. In 1990, JUKI established a joint venture in Shanghai with China Shanghai United Sewing Machine Co., Ltd. to establish Shanghai Heavy Machinery Sewing Machine Co., Ltd. (now a wholly foreign-owned enterprise), the first Japanese-funded company to manufacture small overlock sewing machines for household use. In the following year, in 1995, it established a joint venture with China Xinxing Group Corporation (Beijing), which is engaged in textile, garment, and home appliance businesses, to establish a joint venture with China Xinxing Group Corporation (Beijing), which is engaged in the local business of textiles, clothing, and home appliances, and established a joint venture with China Xinxing Group Corporation (Beijing), which manufactures industrial lockstitch sewing machines, with a capital of 160 million yuan, and a wholly-owned company in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, which manufactures industrial sewing machine parts, and Heavy Machinery (Ningbo) Garment Equipment Industry Co., Ltd. (now absorbed and merged into Heavy Machinery (Ningbo) Precision Machinery Co., Ltd.).
